Lets discuss boat length.

Lately I've been thinking that a 24' boat is an odd duck size. Not just a Yamaha but any 24'. Too big to get skinny and too small for big trips. I'm really starting to feel something up to 20' is a great size and then the jump to something 28' and up is the next most useful boat. Now granted, my 24 does everything I ask but I find we almost never use the bow which is where most of the additional length comes from. Another anomaly with us is that it's almost always just me and the mrs on the boat. We also don't use the tower and have only had one instance where we pulled anyone on a tube. We do fish however and do a lot of cruising around.

Thoughts? Does anyone else just use your jetboat to cruise and fish?

We mainly cruise and tube with our 230.... our next boat will be a 28 and up cruizers for more salt water stuff... and maybe a live aboard once we retire!

I agree with above. I just moved up to a 32 cruiser. I loved the jet boat but too small for big water and too big for quick trips to small lakes.

I am loving my cruiser, overnights are a blast and a full head is a big plus! Having AC in the cabin when you have had enough of the hot sun is anther bonus.

Still small enough for day boating, water sports, fishing but can handle big water and over night / weekend stays.

I'm hoping we can do a liveaboard at some point but I'm thinking the mrs will only be able to do that in small doses . I really am thinking an Albin 28 TE will take care of our future needs and shorter liveaboard stints. And a 17' BW Dauntless for the small boat needs.

All good points but I really like my 24'er. I have my boat in a slip so 99% of my boating is done on a single lake. On my lake a 19' boat would get tossed around too much. The 24' size does pretty good in the chop for the price range boat I want to be in right now. If I moved to a 26'-28' bow rider I would be forking out big bucks.

Sometimes I do wished I had a cruiser though. A bunch of people on our dock have them and it looks like they have a good time staying at the lake on the weekends. Maybe when our kid is older and out of watersports.

Our 24' boat is perfect for us. We always have 2 families on the boat...usually with 2-6 kids on board. They go up in the bow to get away from the old folks. 24' is perfect for this.

6 kids and 4 adults! That's a lot of people!

I agree that the 24 is perfect for day boating.

When you want to go into the open ocean or travel for weekends I think a cruiser with more length is needed.
