I am a fairly new boater looking to get my first boat of my own. I am looking at the Yamaha 195 series (195S) and the Yamaha 212 series (212SE). I will be using the boat in a bay and plan to water ski / wakeboard. I also want to be able to use the boat solo and will have it trailered. I have read that it's best to just go with the larger boat up front. My biggest concern is how difficult it will by launching a 21' alone. I appreciate your thoughts.

Both will be easy to launch. I’m assuming you plan to solo launch by docking the boat and then removing your tow rig from the ramp, and then returning to the boat after parking. The 21 series will be easier to dock with the twin jets giving you a bit more control. I’d recommend making the decision based on how many people you plan to take along and how you’ll use the boat.

Really no difference between launching a 19' and a 21'. Go with the bigger boat.

I launch and retrieve a 25’ foot all the time with no issues. Once you figure out a system it’s easy. I can launch/retrieve solo quicker than most of people at the ramp with help….. with help I can be in and out if a slip in a minute or two. Go big.

Either boat will do what you want, Just remember for all speeds not just at the dock you will most likely want to upgrade the steering system so you can handle water sports activities with ease, maintain control in rough conditions, wind and waves with confidence even control the boat while rapidly decelerating.
And for a faster hole shot and cleaner wake you would want to choose the deluxe version of my steering systems to get the plaining surface under the nozzles.
These patented steering systems are effective at all speeds and inexpensive, for either of the 2 boats you are considering.
The 19 foot would use the super ultimate ak-19 deluxe system, spring loaded aircraft aluminum , adjustable SUPER FINS provide adjustable all speed steering and the plaining surface to clean the wake behind the boat , the current buy direct discount price is only $268.99 for that complete setup and it also comes with free domestic priority mail. no plastic parts and does not increase the draft of the boat.
If you choose the twin engine 21 foot you will want to add the super magnum ak-19 deluxe system . 1630938904483.png
It adds in the PATENTED second tie rod so you can balance out your twin engine system, while adding redundancy ,
It has adjustable tempered aluminum super fins on the outside and tempered aluminum top fins for extra slow speed steering assistance.
plus it comes with the plaining surfaces for a smoother ride in chop, a cleaner wake for water sport activities & faster hole shot .
This system will keep you in control in wind waves and current with extra control during rapid deceleration , both systems will also allow you to make high speed turns without the annoying high speed bleed off common with the stock setups. The specially designed Patented system combined with the factory rudder forms a V configuration for maximum effect without increasing the draft of the boat. The super magnum ak-19 deluxe is currently buy direct discount priced at $489.99 also with free domestic priority mail included.

So choose the boat that suits your needs and your budget then add the most features and benefits to the steering system so the only thing you need to practice is SMILING when you drive it.

I agree with the other posts, that there is not much difference in either launching or trailering a 19' vs 21' boat.

Are you looking at just the Yamaha's?

Myself, I'm looking at lightly used Yamaha 195S or Scarab 195. Also, if the price is right a Yamaha AR210 or Scarab 215. There are a lot of things I prefer with the Yamaha, but the Scarab, IMHO, has a much nicer interior and I like the single level at the rear of the boat.

No matter what you decide, just take your time launching and trailering the boat. Don’t feel the need to rush at the ramp. When people rush at dock and ramp is when mistakes happen and things really go sideways. You’d much rather take your time and get on and off the water safely.
