Hi guys I am hoping I can reach out to someone in the Houston area to look at a boat for me. This guy is the 3rd owner it seems like a decent deal but I don't want to offer anything without seeing it. Any help anyone can offer is appreciated. Also I was told you can hook up some software that will tell you boats exact hours. Any insight anyone can offer?

Hi @TheRedRocket and welcome. I wouldn't be able to help you out since I don't live anywhere near tx, but the software that Yamaha has is called #YDS and requires a cable to read the hours. Good luck with your search.

Ps. You don't happen to be the "red rocket" on YouTube, are you?

Definately use the YDS to do an hour check on the engines as the hour meter shown in pic 8 is not OEM and could have been added during it's last 39 hours of use.

I'd almost be more concerned about an 8 year old boat with only 40 hours. I'm the poster child for motoring out and parking for the rest of the day and I'm at 75 hours after 4 years.

Yea the guy told me he is the 3rd owner and the hours meter was installed by the first. Also the boat has never been used in salt water so I am skeptical.

No that is not me. It's just a name I carried over from a couple car forums I am on. Just checked out the channel though. lol

That hour meter looks like the inductive pick up type where the pick up wire just wraps around a spark plug lead. These can be unwrapped at any time or forgotten to be replaced after a plug change. Do yourself a big favor and have the hours checked either by a member with YDS or a local dealer.

@TheRedRocket , are you still looking at this boat? Sorry, I got a bit behind on my reading and only just saw this now. I am in the Houston area and have a YDS setup. Let me know if I can help.

Thank you for the response and offer to help I really appreciate it. I have decided to wait until the end of the boating season and see if I can score a better deal then.

Ok. Again, sorry for not getting back quicker. Took the kid to look at colleges for a week and got way behind on reading here... If I can help when you get to the point of purchasing (or additional research), do feel free to reach out again or PM me on here. Happy to do what I can.

You will pay more now but you will gain another year of enjoying boating. You can not buy back time.

@TheRedRocket. During the time you're waiting stay tuned here. While gaining knowledge here you may also find a member ready to sell his boat to upgrade to something newer. Member boats are generally very well cared for plus you get some history through their posts.
