I am new to the forum and the new owner of a used 2012 Yamaha 242. When checking all the tower bolts (due to annoying vibration) I found that the hex bolts holding the tower brackets to the hull were loose. They will not tighten up. It feels as thought they are stripped, but threads appear normal. Has anyone experienced this issue?

Welcome to the site @TMike and congrats on the new boat. I'm pretty sure on my 07 boat that there are nuts on the inside of the hull. So I had to have somebody inside with a wrench while I turned the Allen head bolts on the outside. But I'm not sure about your model/year.

There are nuts on the inside of the hull. The easiest thing to do is empty out the compartments and lay in there to reach up and hold the nut while someone tightens them from the outside. It can be tricky to get to the top one with the bottom one in place.

Awesome. Thanks for the guidance. Sounds like I'll be squeezing myself into the compartment. Maybe I can recruit my son. He'd probably be a better fit :-)

Congrats on the new boat. I had the same issue with my 2013. I had my boat at the dealer for another issue and they covered it under the YES warranty.

Try some loctite thread locker so you don't have to do it again.
