Took the boat out Thursday and made the mistake of "assuming" everyone was doing thir part when we docked for lunch. Get home only to find the side of my boat scratched to all hell because someone didn't put out the middle bumper. I didn't notice it when we docked, or when we left so it's my fault for not checking. But scratches are through the paint and into the fiberglass. ?
a). Is it OK to still put on the water with fiberglass exposed?
b) can I temporarily paint over it until I can get it fixed?
(I have a baby coming in 3 Mos, I just totalled my truck the day before, and my wife cracked her windshield same day, so "boat repairs" are not a priority right now) ?

Nothing like a beat down of bad luck. I would wager we've all been there at least once.

Throw some flex tape over that and run it until the baby shows. Take a breather and drop it at a shop during the off season.

Good luck brother!

Damn that’s ugly. You’re okay to still put in water. If you don’t mind the look I’d wait until a pro can fix it before I started trying to dyi that thing. Some guys will come to your house or you can trailer it to their shop. Should only take a day. I’d say $800-1200

Ouch! Good luck...I definitely think that is a job for professionals!

Definitely safe to run as is, it's not too deep and well above the waterline. Sorry about the run of bad luck.

If you’re wanting to fix it yourself there’s plenty of gel coat repair forums you can search on here.. Just make sure you ask for some pointers before you begin! You could see if insurance will cover it? If not I can’t imagine it costing more than $1000 fixing it via professional.

Didn't even think about insurance, that's a good idea. Hopefully they won't drop me for having 3 claims in a week. ? ?

You have made other claims recently??? Hopefully joking. With that being said, if it wasn't on that seam I would say give it a go trying to fix yourself. Black is also harder to get to look right than white since it shows imperfections more easily.

I like the insurance idea. Agree with @Bruins63 above. The boat should be ok to use. I’ve been thinking about adding a cleat (pop up quick connect type). The shape of the boat makes it difficult to properly place bumpers. I always end up tying one off to the steering wheel to add extra protection.

All of my vehicles are insured through the same company. No claims on the boat yet, but my truck was totalled on Thursday (at a claim of $52k), and my wife's windshield was cracked the same day (claim of $1400).

I had a fiberglass tub repair guy guy four smaller scratches in my black hull. He did a great job and charged me $200 in Arizona. Maybe look for tub repair in your area and ask them. If you seek out boat specific repair they’re going to charge you so much more.

Holy crap! That's a string of bad luck. I wouldn't file a claim on the boat. I'm not sure what you deductible is but I'm thinking it's $1,500 or under to repair that.

That is one bad day man, I hope everyone is safe and you are all doing well. Man I wish you the best with that.

That’s rough, I feel for you. Personally I like avoiding making a claim whenever possible. If I were in your shoes a black gel coat repair kit and disposable sprayer is how I would fix it. There is quite a bit of info on the internet about it but your looking at about $50 in supplies and a couple of hours time wise. Just make sure if you tackle this yourself to mask off well, gel coat can be a pain to get off once it’s on. I had an issue on my last boat and the local pro, only charged a few hundred bucks to fix it and it was much worse, like 2X4 from the dock making a hole in the boat (bought it that way before anyone assumes otherwise). Good luck!

So, to continue with the black cloud over my head... The adjuster called me about the truck. She asked how the rear and passenger side damage occurred. It was only a 2 car collision, my front, his rear. THERE WAS NO PREVIOS DAMAGE! Fucking tow yard side-swiped my truck on their lot! Now I have to file ANOTHER claim for that to get my full total loss value! (yes, I have pictures of it undamaged on their lot). Oh, and found out today I have COVID for the third time as well. ?
