does you tower fold ? my guess is they are support bars for when you fold the tower,
I did a couple quick searches and found talk of them but no pictures in use to confirm,

Ding, ding, ding. That is the correct answer. They were used to support the tower in the folded position while in transit. Yamaha uses those, and some dealers pitch them, others drop them into a cabinet for the customer. Just like the shipping cover.
