I don’t know if he was a profit, but many aspects of Animal Farm and more over 1984 are prevalent today. I think 1984 had “the memory hole” but it’s been many moons since I read that. Don’t forget Ayn Rand’s “The Fountain Head” (great movie with Patricia Neal and Gary Cooper) and “Atlas Shrugged” (The Aristocracy of Pull) as well. All four of those books should be required reading in school.

Never got banned from a platform, just one forum for pointing out the obvious. That was just one of the reasons I got rid of social media years and years ago. I made a list of all the positives in my life and the negatives, then removed all the negatives that I had control of, including people, some I’d known for decades, and the quality of my life increased a lot.

Ah! Totally forgot about Brave New World! Need a Soma? Now that is apropos in today’s world. Between prescription drugs, over powering caffeine drinks from coffee to “sports drinks”, then plenty of alcohol to anesthetize at night.

I think it was less of a prophecy and more of a logical extension of how to control people. Control of information and narratives drives peoples truth, leaders have known this forever. It's just now the scale.of these operations has increased massively with the internet and social media and the like. Add in that you can create fake people incredibly easily and convincingly...

It's only getting worse. Have you seen what you can do with AI nowdays? Watched a very convincing video of Morgan Freeman talking about reality, that he had nothing to do with. AI took pictures and videos of him and generated it based off a video a guy made, it mimicked his speech and movements, but put it with Morgan freeman's appearance and voice. We are on the cusp of making completely fake videos something that can be done by a single person with a motive. People will be able to make fake videos of people saying horrible things... Or make them just offensive enough to be believable for a true character assassination.

We live in dark times that are only getting darker as the "tech" industry does things with no regard for if they should, and we will all suffer for their recklessness.

Yes we've had to give a few people timeouts here due to our no politics rule. Our members voted that if you want to discuss politics go do it somewhere else. It's been the hardest, and most unpleasant chore here.
