2017 AR195 project complete, just need the dealer to tell me why some oil is collecting in the J-pipe and breather tube and we’re home free (no pun-intended since already social distancing).Recommend splurging on the following if you’re ready to put in the hours:

K&N direct bolt-on 3.5in cone filter
Lucky 13 jet cone
Riva ribbon delete
K&N engine breather upgrade
Riva sequential blow-off valve
Brisk 3-point spark plugs

56 MPH top speed w 2 occupants, full fuel and light gear. Water temp 70 degrees, Air temp 81 degrees, sea-level.

Any questions on TAT and level of effort for each job let me know as I’m happy to share best practice.

North Texas boater here and I hope to see some of you boys on the water this summer.
Cheers.

Lavon is our home lake. Live in the Rockwall area. Will probably get over to Lewisville a couple times this Summer. (:

On the oil...perhaps overfill.

My first thought as well so I picked up an oil extractor and drained the oil, replaced w new (Yamalube) and same result. WOT forces oil up and out of the breather tube. 2nd time replaced w same, lake test again and same result. 3 oil changes at 45 bucks a kit gets a little pricey so I figured it was time to let the pros take over.

Nice! What gave you the most perf? Really considering the ribbon delete but a bit worried since I am a Novice and it looks rather difficult. I already did Lucky13 cone and new CAI filter.

Also any benefit to that K&N filter vs stock Yamaha?

The ribbon delete is worth the time especially since you did the CAI...stock mesh insert is very restrictive. Tedious taking off all the bolts from the intake manifold and disconnecting the fuel rail and all its connecting wires but worth it to familiarize yourself w the motor. If you’re considering a blow-off valve remember that it’s not a performance gain but rather it extends the life of your supercharger. If you’re considering doing this I would suggest purchasing it along w the ribbon delete and doing both installs concurrently since you’ll have to drill/tap the back side of the intake in order to attach its vacuum line and obviously you’ll need to have it removed to do the job.

K&N direct bolt-on CAI is a great mod. Downside is noise as you can definitely hear the engine taking in more air and it does get a little noisier but I personally like the sound and it definitely moves more air w the mesh removed.

Oh I meant more on the oil filter. I have the same air filter, nice easy mod :) thanks for the tip on the ribbon delete!

I’ve not found one oil filter to be an advantage over another in the car or boating world. The Yamalube complete oil change kits online come w a Yamaha-branded filter (OEM) and personally I think they just look boring as compared to the K&N. (:

One last note on the K&N oil filter is they have a notch on top so you can remove them w a crescent wrench. The smaller oil filters don’t come out as easily via a standard filter wrench whereas the K&Ns can be installed/removed w the turn of a crescent...nice little benefit if you ask me.

I wouldn't have changed the oil so many times, just checked the level. I don't know these particular engines, but did it do it before you made all the modifications?

Different strokes for different folks. The oil was pretty dirty and needed to be changed and since the goopy stuff that likes to live in the lower unit, I like to use an extractor to suck out all of the tannins and cycle through a batch of inexpensive marine oil first to flush off vital engine parts before draining and adding the Yamalube. So in response your question, had I not disassembled the engine to outfit w the new parts I probably would not have known there was used oil sitting in the tube. In my opinion these motors should come equipped from the factory with a breather that could be up-fitted to include a catch can, especially given the minimal cost to upgrade and the reduced cooling efficiency this spent oil residue causes but I’ll defer to the folks at Yamaha on this.

Maybe a stupid question, but was does CAI stand for?
