More water into the changing room :(

Many of you have followed the old water-into-the-changing-room threads. I had success in fixing the anchor locker and making sure I ruled out water from washing down the boat. Success for a few outings. I guess I wasn't getting enough water into the bilge to discover this design flaw.

So, imagine my surprise as I found water in the changing room after a short stint on flat water in the river.
Where the heck was it coming from?

I took off the drain plug and found it was as useless as rubber lips on a woodpecker.

Basically, the water just goes around the plug.

I fixed that one and the one closest to the aft...and added it to a long list of plugs and hoses without silicone. Sigh.

It would sure seem to be.
I hadn't researched that yet. I thought it was only the anchor plug. What a poor way to mount that drain. How about just a rubber o-ring? Simple little things like that just boggle my mind.
How come I like this boat so much though!

Even after sealing? They are basically duplicates of the bilge drains (which hold the water in quite well) with the exception of the mounting. I'll keep my fingers crossed and let you know.
Barely an ounce of water comes out of my bilge since I sealed up the wet locker. That's reassuring.
Before I wash her down I'll take a look in the locker and see if the gobs of silicone hold fast
There is about a 1/2 centimeter of water just below the drain plug I could see before I sealed it up. Doesn't make it's way out I guess unless I jack up the front of the boat even higher. I suppose there's almost always some water in there.

I rarely get any water out of the two hull plugs in the back of the hull, even with the tongue jack on a block and all the way up. If the boat is uncovered during a big rain or wash, I can count on a gallon or so of water coming out of the console plugs when I pull those with the trailer tongue lowered all the way down.

Hey you might want to check your fish box if you ever use it as a cooler...Mine leaked like many others and water will go into that area also

Not sure what you mean by "sticky tabs". We can make some posts "Sticky" so they remain at the top, but we don't have any way to have different "Tabs" on a forum. In general we use "Sticky" posts sparingly.

I meant just make the post or FAQ link a sticky at the top of the FSH forum,

I definitely believe less is better and to many stickys just become more stuff people don't pay attention to, it's just this seems to be a very common FSH issue and it might help visitors who go directly to the FSH forum,

We might want to do that for the scupper replacement in the 05-09 forums since that's potentially a safety issue and something a person may not even think about until they've happen across a post or reminder from someone,

I have water standing in the changing room area constantly. I’ve sprayed everything down and watched but never see any water entering that area other than if I spray out the two storage areas in front of the fish locker. I can clearly see areas that there is no sealant between the hull and cockpit liner. That seems to be where the water makes its way into the changing area from the front storage compartment. So, first question, is this by design to drain that area into the changing room? Second, If I seal those areas up will the water drain to the back of the boat via another designed avenue? Would be nice if Yamaha had some type of schematic available of the hull showing the construction and drain system of the boat.

I had thought maybe the water was coming back up through the drain as I leave them open but anytime I look down into the drain hole its dry as a bone. I had also thought about drilling a 1” diameter hole into the floor in front of the drain and installing a stainless flush grate over it so it could drain completely. However, if the water is trapped beneath the liner and hull and it’s not draining to the rear of the boat I won’t accomplish anything other than possibly making it worse.

Also noted water standing below both rear folding jump seats. Again, no drain holes that I could see. Solved that problem by drilling a ½ diameter hole from the storage area into the engine compartment.

I simply got a plastic tube from Ace Hardware the same circumference as the anchor drain hole and put it in there. It bypasses the gap and it's sealed at both ends. No more water through the anchor drain.

The other route water gets in is backward through those drain plugs in the changing room. They are not siliconed to the hull, believe it or not. I removed both of them and siliconed them thoroughly. The water in the bilge, as the boat moves around, just sloshes around and splashes through those drain holes. Once you do both things it should be dry as a bone, like mine.

Thank you! I will do that tonight. Shy of being down there when the boat is underway I wasn't able to that the water was coming out of the drain and settling in the low area of the floor. I have the drains left open so water could exit but sounds like I need to have them closed ?

I leave them closed all the time. It's only to drain water out. If they're open then water will definitely get in there from the bilge. Make sure the screws are siliconed in as well or it can get around them. I resealed all of my drains even my bilge drains.

Its rained for 3 days now. Went out last night to check the changing room to see if sealing the drains as well as installing the drain plugs help and in deed it did. NICE AND DRY!!!!
