Looks like i'm on my last thread here in NYC. I went down to Florida last week for 14 days. I rode my stand up jet ski in the surf on Daytona beach, I mountain biked Hobe Sound, boating in west palm, caught and ate my own king crabs, wakeboarded in west palm, and went to a lot of nightlife in delray and miami. I met a few interesting women there, and many nice people that all recommended that I move there. Monday morning I returned to NY in 40 degree weather, and woke up to a $100 ticket on my windshield for "blocking" my neighbor's driveway... Please note that we have double width streets and I "blocked" the driveway by a mere 1". Add that to the $500 of tickets i've received for having a slight ripple in my inspection sticker and other silly things. Also tired of paying $270 a month for a train that breaks down everyday. State income tax is brutal. Winter is brutal.

I have family in Palm Beach County. I'm going to return to Florida soon to check other areas like Wynwood, Boynton Beach, and Boca. I'm an engineer so something near to a major city or offices would be ideal. Any other recommendations for middle class salary?

Yes, it's a no brainer. I moved down a year ago and my only regret is not doing it sooner. Although I think I appreciate it more now since I was really at the end of my rope. There are many places to live, however, depending on the type of engineer (E.E, M.E etc) you may want to position yourself in the "proper" area to avoid a long commute. WPB certainly has a lot of aerospace as does Space Coast obviously and many places in between. It just depends on what you're after. Best thing to is find an area that you're all about then the rest will figure itself out.

All hobbies year round with what I find really cool people too. It's like the North of the South with like minded people. Great balance compared to NC where I was. Born raised in NNJ the armpit of NJ

My family is in the same boat - WI has been taxing us with it's weather our entire lives. I have family in the Ponte Verde area so we've got Jacksonville-ish on our radar as a 5 year plan. I want to boat year 'round!

I do the electrical design and more on all size buildings. I've worked on some high rise buildings here in Manhattan. So anywhere there is construction then I should be able to find something.

Obviously every person has their reason(s) on the time-frame. I encourage you to act sooner rather than later...life is short and there is usually no "perfect" time. :winkingthumbsup"

100% agree - I have in-laws that I'm working on to bring. I'd hate to move grandchildren away from grandparents, but then again, WARM WEATHER.

Oh gosh. You can be anywhere. I'd be surprised if you didn't find a remote position too. Have you asked your current employer about relocation? That's what I did and it worked.

Not to sound dickish, ,move and they will follow or include them in your move. They will likely enjoy it more too.

I want to ask them if I can work remotely. Right now I'm working for a small company that's been growing exponentially. It would be a game changer if I could live in Florida and not have to pay all this crazy transportation costs and state income tax. I could live VERY comfortable for my age (29)

Don't forget about the west coast! Construction is booming all over down here. Saint Petersburg is hot right now with lots more planned. Yes we don't have waves but we have lots of interesting people and events. LOL, I have nothing to do with the city, it's just my observation. Housing might be cheaper too. Oh, one more thing, this area seams to warn off hurricanes better than most. Just my $.02

The worst they can say is "No". Then the writing is on the wall regardless. When you ask, report back here. :)

I'm already sold on the east coast. I have friends and family on the east coast and there's a good group of jet skiiers that ride out of boynton for the surf. I would be thrilled to never have to get into a 5/4 hooded full suit again.

That's great! Nice to have family nearby. Good luck. Don't wait as time does not.

Check out Florida Ski Riders on FB. The group rides are massive (too big IMO/IME) but I've met some awesome people through it too. Look at their member count, it's staggering. This is just one group out of many...you'll meet many like minded people of both genders.
