I’m looking to join the “Jetboat Tribe” and purchase my first one after doing a lot of research. This forum has been awesome!

Question... do the dealers negotiate on new boats? Do they expect you to? How much can one expect to save? I’m 90% sure I’m going with a 2019 240/242. Any tips?

Thanks for any insights!

You may get them to throw in some extras, but from what I have seen all Yamahas sell for msrp or right at it and that includes the 3 states surrounding mine.

Yeah I don’t think there’s gonna be any negotiation. The price you see is pretty much it. Maybe on a leftover 18 you could but not on a 19.

Yes. Any dealer will negotiate. I paid $73,000 plus tax in San Diego for a 2019 242x, which is pretty good since the freight is $2,100.

You'll never know if you don't try. If they don't budge on price, hit them up on accessories (coast guard kit, PDFs, rope lines, stern anchor, Yamaha protectant, free maintenance, full tank of gas, etc.) Just to name a few.

Everything is negotiable and if they won’t negotiable go buy a different brand boat..the kind of money you’re looking to spend for a 24’ boat can pretty much get you into any decent brand/model boat...

The Yamaha’s have smaller dealer margins than others boats- they are not like your average wakeboard boat that has upwards of 20-25% negotiating room...

Decide the boat you want and what your willing to pay and tell them your ready to buy right now and give them an offer which ALSO includes accessories you need (at least a cover).

I got about a ~7.5% discount on mine, plus credit towards a cover, then added freight and shipping.

That’s pretty good. I haven’t heard of many people getting anything off MSRP on new current year. I guess they did throw in the cover for mine but that was it. It was my first boat so I didn’t try very hard. When I upgrade I’ll be ready though! ?

Keep in mind, this applies to any big purchase: houses, boats, cars, planes, motorcycles, TVs, washer and dryers, furniture, outdoor grills, etc. You'll never know if you don't ask. Try it; the worst they're going to say is no and you're right back where you started.
