Lead is a very good bearing material despite its bad reputation of being "toxic" it has natural lubrication and protection properties that are a large part in reason for the 1.8s longevity success rate IMO ... the only other material i could see them using if they are no longer using Lead is copper , but that is more of an automotive style bearing that may not do well in a marine enviornment due to constant high rpm and possible corrosion.. I would love to know what material they have switched to..
