The speedometer worked the very first time I took it out but this past weekend it just read 0 the whole time on the Connex screen. I reset the connex settings to no avail.

Does anyone know where the reading comes from for the speedo on these boats? Is it GPS?

Also maybe I left something unplugged when I was working installing my sound system but I would think if speed is read per GPS that the info would be contained in the Connex screen module

I think it’s a little wheel type apparatus on the hull. If you peek under the trailer towards the stern on the starboard side you should be able to see it. Not sure how much troubleshooting can be done with it though.

Cool I'll check it out. I cant believe with the advances in GPS that any boat maker still does it like that

Sometimes speed over water is just as important as speed over land. Similar concept to airspeed vs land speed in an airplane. There is also some additional "robustness" of the system by taking a direct reading, not a computed reading.

Also, it's cheaper......and honestly that's probably the real reason.

Check the paddle wheel on the bottom of the boat, towards the starboard side, near the stern. I've had a pebble wedge in mine and make it not work properly before. I've also read of others on the 2019 boats where they are slightly damaged due to the placement of the wheel on the boat in relation to the bunks on the trailer. If the boat isn't loaded perfectly square/level then the wheel can be on the bunk, resulting in damage.

If the wheel is not damaged and spins freely we can move on to checking connections.

I don't think I've ever saw a boat speedometer that has worked for any amount of time haha.

Anyway I went out and messed with the paddle wheel a little bit yesterday and it was stuck, I freed it up but it still had a spot that felt like it was binding, about the last quarter of a revolution, Dont know if that's normal or if it supposed to free wheel and I bent the shaft. My guess is like you said I didn't get it perfectly lined up on the bunks. What a bonehead place to put the wheel though.

Mine spins freely if that helps so it might be damaged but agreed it is a dumb spot.

Thanks Bdog, that helps, I will have to mess with it more and see what I can do to make it right again.

I think there is a write up somewhere on how to replace the bent shaft when that happens.

The paddle wheel location is indeed stupid on that setup.

Paddle Wheels are still, I'm going to say, around 139,456% better than the old Pitot Tube setup on I/O drives. Those things would ALWAYS get clogged, were wildly unreliable, and were generally a PIA to make work properly. Had a Rinker 182 for 5 seasons and I think the speedo worked on it for the first trip each season after I cleaned it, then stopped. Was a terrible system unless you ran in perfectly clean water, even then it was typically VERY inaccurate. I've found the paddle wheel works far more reliably, and on inland lakes without major current or wind, they are somewhat close on accuracy (my GPS reads within about 2.5-3% most calm days. Of course river current and wind throw those speeds out the window. Saw almost 50 one day when on plane, heading up river, and passing a barge. His prop current gave me QUITE the boost in water speed :D

Anywho, glad you got it figured out. For me, the paddle wheel is adequate until I can get a GPS Speed control system, then I'll take the stock Speedo out, and replace with that.
