I have a 2008 SX 230 with the stock speakers and have 2 questions. 1. How do I remove the existing stock speakers? 2. What does everyone recommend I replace the rock speakers with that’s easy and not too pricey? Thanks!

The grill snaps off with some pressure from the sides (Say pry them off carefully with a flat head) , then the screws become visible. - (EDIT: Maybe I was doing it wrong and you are supposed to twist them off like @Julian says below!)

As to what to replace them with, better people will provide good suggestions. DB651 Polk Audio were OK (and a perfect fit) but seem to have a limited life of 3-5 years at which they start to fail. They don't even make those anymore.

Thank you

Thanks for pointing me to this. What speaker would you replace them with?
That depends on your budget!
Low budget: Polk db 651s
Mid budget: JL MX650 and amps (and sub?)
High Budget: look at larger JLs (if you can squeeze them in the space), subs, amps

Appreciate all the help!

I have rockford fosgate prime speakers in my Sx230 and they are FANTASTIC. They're a bit more than the polks (and a lot better IMO), but a bit cheaper than the JL (and not much off their performance).

My Polks DB651s failed with minimum use in under 2 years. 3 of the 4 and Cructhfield did nothing. But in the end I will win, believe me, with 4 new DB652s in place. Same crappy speaker but for free? They are great.

I did the Polk 651'ss and a JL amp several years ago. Been serving me well...

Just goes to show, your mileage may vary. At least they are very affordable.

Twist the speaker grilles 1/4 in. counterclockwise using the gap in the grille at the bottom. They pop right off!

I replaced the spkrs in my SX210 with MTX Audio WET65-W speakers. Compared to the dilapidated stock speakers that had come apart (see pic below) they sound great. It did require a small amount cutting of the fiberglass which I was able to do with a dremel bit in my drill.

Whatever you buy, buy them off amazon and get the $7.99 3 year asurion warranty so when they go bad, you will get your money back in the form of an amzon gift card for the price of the speakers. It is a revolving door where you can replace your speakers every 2 or 3 years after they fail.
