Hey everybody, my name is Jamey and I am fairly new to boating in general but especially jet boats. I did a sea trial over the weekend on an AR230 and have a question on the boat.
At about 3/4 throttle the port engine was showing 4,200 rpm while the starboard was at 8,000. I know they can vary some but this seemed extreme to me. Then the port engine temp light came on so we went back into the marina. The salesman I was on the trial with didn't know anything about jet boats so they are having the mechanic take a look. It was still winterized and on the lot when I showed up to look at the boat but they were nice enough to get it set up and put in the water for a trial. Looking to see if anyone has any thoughts on this.

The rpm difference does seem more than normal, many times even with the throttles at the same place the rpms will be 2-3-500 off, but the fact that the overheat came on is a definite sign of something,

I would suggest at the least getting a YDS reading (computer reading the ECU for engine hours and previous codes) which can be done at a jetski shop if the dealer doesn't have one.

The fact that it was winterized, whatever that means, since it doesn't really need anything other than fogging and fuel stabilizer to hold it over.

Definitely don't buy it until they give you another water trial and compression test,

first thought would be plugs or a bent up impeller ?, then maybe stuck injector (fuel in the oil, it would smell and be overfilled)

Thanks for the feedback. I was thinking along the lines of an issue with the impeller. I did't think there was anything to the winterizing of the boat either but thought i would throw that out there just in case. I will definitely go for another trial once they say they have it fixed. It sounds like getting a compression test on these boats is a must.
I will let you know how it goes.
