Hi everyone. Used this forum to do research throughout my buying process which was very helpful so I just joined. I picked up a 2016 Yamaha SX190 yesterday. So much room for a small boat, really well thought out.

It has an aftermarket tower on it and Cobra Jet fins. Really wanted 2016 and up after I read about timing chain issues on here. I'll be getting it ready to launch over the next month and I'm sure I'll have some questions. My list of things to do so far:

Finding all drain plugs, boat will be wet slipped about 2 hours away from my house. Looks like 2 plugs in the stern and then 2 more in engine and fuel compartment if I'm reading the manual correctly. Not loving the thought of plastic drain plugs.

I'll need a GPS/fishfinder. Not to find fish but I'll need to see bottom, and mark safe tracks around the lake (rocky). I've put a few Garmin Striker 4" units in other boats. Never had a jet drive so I'll look into transom vs in hull mounting of transducer.

Mirror for tow sports, boat will live with a mooring cover that covers windshield, so suction cup maybe to start?tempImageKVW1IP.png

:Welcome: to the forum.

We've had no issues with the drain plug. Maybe get a 2nd battery and 2nd bilge pumpnfor peace of mind? The drain plug ahead of the engine would be to drain the fuel tank compartment (always dry). And the one in the ski locker should be closed when the boat is unattended, you need to be at speed for this one to empty as it's the low point of the boat.

We installed a 4in garmin, drilled the stern.

For mirror, we went with a Cipa 11803 comp ii. It's not wide enough to give complete side to side coverage for a skier/tuber (covers about 80 %) but is a good size compromise.

Congratulations! My 190 upgrades included the Garmin 44CV and I mounted the transducer on the ride plate and ran the cable up through the drain (no holes in boat) and it works perfect at all speeds. Ditto on the drain plugs. Would recommend that you open the big floor hatch and verify that the drain plug is indeed installed and it is indeed dry. Mine (purchased new) had a seam leak in the bulkhead at the back of the ski locker storage and was wet. Fixed it and all been good for 4 years.

:Welcome:
Plastic drain plugs are not an issue, it's the O-rings that leak. Get a can of silicone spray from an auto parts store and keep the rubber O-rings lubed. Use the same spray on the cleanout plugs regularly to keep the rubber seals supple and they will slip in and out easily.

Thanks for the advice all. I’ll have to start opening hatches and find where things are. I saw the ski locker which is awesome. So much storage. Prior owner had marina winter and summerize boat so I’ll have to go through it well before launch.
