Newbie question - adding battery selector with no backplate

Hi all,

So, I picked up a 2016 Yamaha SX190 recently and decided to add a house battery. I bought the Seachoice 11501 battery selector. I noticed when pulling off the stock battery on/off switch that it had a back plate, but this new Seachoice doesn't have one.

I searched on the forum and can't seem to find anything regarding it. Is it safe to install this against the carpeted wall with no back plate?

The carpet should be a decent insulator and not cause an electrical problem. However I would get a small piece of plastic and cut it to size and fit it in the back to close it off - or use the old one if possible.

With my luck there'd be a small piece of wire strand or other manufacturing debris in the carpet right where I install it, it bounces into the contacts, overheats and causes a fire. Me paranoid? Nah...

Yeah, I was more worried about the fire aspect as well. The old switch is half the size of the new one. I will look for some type of plastic to cut out. Thanks for the response.

I would just cut and paint a piece of wood to mount the switch on. This is what I did for my onboard charger when I installed it next to the battery switches.
