Just a quick introduction as a soon to be newish jet boat owner. I've put some money down on a 2007 AR230 with under 200 hours on the motors. Overall, very impressed with the boat and look forward to spending some time on the water with my family. I love these forums and have learned so much already from earlier posts. I thank you all in advance for any help you decide to offer. Awesome!!

Welcome aboard!! We all love pics, post a few when you get her home.

Based on reading past discussions on this forum, the first thing you need to do is replace the scupper valve on your model boat with a new stainless steel version.

Welcome to the party!

@Eric Verwiebe Welcome to the forum and congrats on the new boat!

Man, already something to learn. What's up with the scupper valve??? I'll have to look up what that even does! Just ordered the fins for the steering though. Def need some help in that dept.

Scupper valve is at the back of the boat just above the plug for letting water out of the hull. This connects to the hole at the deck right below the engine hatch. This system gets rid of water FAST if you take some over the bow, say, in a sub move, or hitting a bad wave out on the ocean. The plastic scupper tends to crack, and we all replace with a SS version sooner or later. Replace it sooner or you'll be doing it after realizing you're taking on water out in the ocean!

Glad to have you on board, did you happen to read in the forum rules/regs that any posters from Hawaii must include at least one picture of their current location with each or their posts?

Check out the FAQ for lots of great info, like your possible need for a scupper replacement, second bilge since your going to be in open water and be careful removing the #3 spark plug, it has a history of getting seized and leave your cleanout plugs OUT after each trip.

It's a great boat that should give you and your family a lot of fun!

@Eric Verwiebe add your location to your profile. I'm headed to Hawaii for 2 weeks of Christmas vacation tomorrow and I would be happy to help you replace the scupper if you have the boat and parts and we are on the same island!

Bruce,

On my first day out, I have found it pretty awesome...the one downside is the immense number of reefs in the bay. It def keeps you on edge a bit. I look forward to the calm days where I can blast out of the bay and just play in deeper water...maybe without the little ones.

Scuba_ref: You'll have to let me know where you'll be. I would love for an experienced boater to point some things out to me, though I don't know if I'd put you to work. I live on Oahu on the Windward side of the island. Who are you traveling with?

Family vacation, 4 daughters (aged 14 - 21) plus one additional 17 year old girl that is a family friend plus the wife - so, working on a scupper replacement would be an enjoyable break!;) Unfortunately we will be on the Big Island the whole time, dodging the Dengue Fever mosquitoes. Is that Kane'ohe Bay that you referenced...beautiful bay and always wanted to boat there. I am pretty sure my 2005 AR230 wouldn't make the trip from WA State no matter how much extra fuel I carry.

When you do replace your scupper make sure you request that one of the scupper wrenches be mailed to you...the right tools make this job much easier; and get a second pair of hands.

I will work on getting some pics up soon. Out in K bay yesterday and it is just beautiful.

Will do. I was actually working on buying a boat on the big island and shipping it over here...this one just came up first.
Bought this boat from a WA guy as well.

I'm sure you could have the scupper wrenches hand delivered to you in Hawaii if you pay for round trip "shipping" ;)
