Oil change on wet slip, in water.

Has anyone ever changed the oil on the wet slip while the boat was in the water? Just wondering how level it would be and if I can pump all the oil out while it's rocking a little. Any issues with doing this way? I figure it's already on water so I can warm it up and not have to take it in and out.

I've done both and there is no appreciable difference.

always do it on the water in a wet slip. Perfectly level ! Four quarts out , four quarts in.

I'm planning on doing this later this week - here's my checklist so I don't get out there and not have everything I need.

-Oil & Filters
-Oil Extractor
-used oil basin of some sort (not sure if im daring enough to pour the used oil back into quart sized containers on the boat)
-Oil Filter Wrench
-bottom half of plastic gallon jub (to be used as a catch can when removing filter)
-lots of rags & paper towels
-cleaning spray to avoid problems with wife
-funnel
-beer

And for my 10 hour
-Grease gun
-Channel locks/vise grips (in the event the zerk holds on too tight)
-new yamaha grease cartridge

I’ve never used a milk jug. That might work. I put a large puppy pad under the filter, which works great. Covers a lot of area. Know how much grease you plan to put in. Mine required 30 CC’s, which for my gun was 30 pumps. Some folks do less, some don’t do anything. Also know it’s not one of those deals where you pump until old grease comes out. Beer should be at the top of the list by the way. Cheers!
