Hello,
Did an oil change this weekend on my 250HO. The oil filter cover bolt was incredibly tight. Took in the order of 70 ft lbs torque to break it free and it didn't help that a previous owner had damaged the E10 Torx head by using a regular socket but it eventually came free. However the cover/bolt assembly was different to the service manual and I'm wondering what is normal? Firstly, I have no spring. The new filter is held in place with the pressure of the cover. The cover bolt has a sleeve around it which is held in place by a flange nut at the bottom. However that assembly is loose and the sleeve moves up and down about 1/8". That flange nut is also very tight but I can't see what actually makes it tight as there is thread evident on the bolt above and below the nut. There is also no small o-ring in that bolt assembly, the only o rings are the two in the cover. Does this sound the same as your bolt assemblies? Do you all have springs under the filter cover? Thanks in advance.

Mostly normal (not the damage to the E10 bolt lol). Here's a pic of the parts but also, here's a video (start at 1:40) to see how it's setup. If you're certain you're missing the small o-ring.. then yeah, you should get one.

Part 33 (the flange nut) should not be tight. I missed that. Are you saying you can't remove it?

Yes, its stuck tight. I think whoever tightened the bolt down last time did it so tight it damaged the threads of that nut and jammed it on.

This is super-helpful as always, Luc. Thank you! I think I'll just order all those parts new and reassemble it. Any idea if there is an equivalent Sea-doo model/year I can use to order from an online sea-doo parts vendor?

That's too bad. I don't know off hand... But those parts are very very common. Personally, when I have issues like this, I just go to my local BRP dealer and bring the part with me. They usually recognize the parts immediately. But otherwise, if you look for a Sea-Doo model of the same year... It'll likely be identical. I'm not an expert on all Sea-Doo lines across years...but I'm pretty certain in those days, all the oil filter housings were identical. Look for models that had a 1500cc engine. That should be the same.
