Probably covered many times before but..., do you screw the cap in, or let it rest on threads to check?
 
I screw mine in it may indicate higher, which I am fine with, to be on safe side of not spilling oil into the air box. I do not fill mine to max either for same reason. That is just me though. I am curious to see what general opinion is around here.
