For those of you with older Yamahas or any other old boat for that matter, post up questions, concerns or funny stories and anecdotes here.

I'll be happy to help out whenever I can. I own a 2004 AR and I've crawled in and around every space on board, so I'm somewhat familiar with the vessel. I tend to take care of my toys fairly well, not as anal as some, but they hold up. If your goal is to keep yours seaworthy then that I can help with.

If I can't, I'll light a fire under someone to see if we can't get answers.

Answers to questions that bother us so....

That's what a successful forum is all about if you ask me.

I find it interesting the high percentage of 23 footers we have in this group. Especially since Yamaha doesn't make a 23' anymore.

Instead of calling them "older" Yamahas, I might have gone with "elite" Yamahas...

I thought those were Exciters?

How about "Classic 230" or the one with the pointy bow?

It goes without saying I miss my '08 SX 230. What a great boat. The fact that it was such a great boat is one of the 3 or 4 reasons keeping me from getting another. I never did like the rumble seat arrangement in the newer 21' and 24' boats. And I don't like the high step on the swim platform either. But I could configure the bow and leave it like I like it and get used to the swim platform. So the cost point becomes the issue for me. I paid $30K for a brand spanking new '08 in MAR '09 and spent another few thousand making it perfect. Starting over at a higher price point and not gaining anything for it seems like I am going backwards. My '08 SX was truly the "perfect" boat.

You got an 08 for $30k? Great deal. My 06 was $34 and I though that was a bargain. Then again, I traded in $55k Mastercraft so my yami was "free". Best deal EVER :D

You remember how the market was in '08'-'09. I think DCB270 paid like $29K for his '09 in the summer of '09! Mine was a year old leftover at that time, so it was understandably $2K less...but Dan hit a real home run! I only put about $4-7K in it...I was having fun! I gave all the records to Dan and Cheryl, so I can't even go back and see! That is what makes it hard...the 240's are freaking steep!

Mel, Truer words were never spoken.....

There were a few years we didn't make it out to the river very often and my wife asked more than once why I didn't just sell it. Of course, first I bitch slapped her for asking such a silly question. And then again for asking twice. The cost of storing it indoors is nothing and I can't replace it, nor would I, for even remotely close to it's original cost.

This post is an attempt at humor and in no way promotes or condones violence towards any of GOD's creatures.
Especially the love of my life.

I bought my '05 in '07 for 25K from a guy would would give Mel a run for his money in terms of analness.....maybe even beat him! He had a log book of EVERY time he took the boat out, with whom, how many hours, the temp, #gallons burned, service details.....and his daughter is/was the Credit Manager at Neilson Enterprises (probably the largest Yamaha Dealer in Chicago area). She was babied! So don't call her old! She's Mature! LOL

Okay, here was my deal. 2008 SX230 purchased new by the first owner off a dealer in SC, in 2011. Warranted until 2015. I bought in March, 2013 for 23,900 and was told it had "about" 50 hours. Stored indoors. Seller had rent paid on indoor facility so we kept it there until May. Shipped it to MD in May. Boat only had 26 hours on it. Perfect condition. Only issue with the boat is it had these aftermarket "fin" contraptions on it, near the jets. Of course, I took them off, as they serve no purpose in my book. I had been looking for about a year and knew this was a deal when it popped up. Sent a check that day; sight unseen. Worked out the details later. And when I sell? The new owner will have a "Captain's Log" detailing the who, where's (only place we go - the Pocomoke River), fuel. weather, etc of every single outing. Very happy with the deal. Extremely pleased with the boat. Only problem at the time of purchase was I hadn't yet sold my LS!

Here's my deal, (which was fate ). Lol. My wife and I went to a boat show in the superdome in 2010. We were boaters but didn't even realize that yamaha made a jetboat. We were stern drivers. Lol. We walked onto a sx230 and fell in love. We didn't fall in love with the price though at 40,000. I told my wife maybe we could get the 210 if we could sell our bayliner at a good price. The next day at work I asked a coworker, who is also a boater, if he had ever heard of a yamaha jetboat. To which he explained that his wife worked for a repo man in mandeville and he thinks that they just repoed one. I called her. It was the sx230 in the color that we wanted. With 22 hours on it. I got it for 24,500. I've now had it for 4 years taking incredible care of her and I think I could get my money back whenever I want. Needless to say I bought the boat before selling the bayliner. Lol. Y'all have a good one.

I love hearing stories about a good buy, whether it be a boat or a car....any time you get a bargain it's a great feeling. My buddy's dad, who is in his late 70's now and a multimillionaire, still goes bargain hunting.

It's all in the "Find".

These "MATURE" boats hold resale value very well. I purchased my 08 AR230 Last year for 27,000 and I fell that I got a good deal. The boat already had tower speakers, sub, amp, head unit, wake board racks, and these wacky fins things on the jet pumps that OCMD talked about also. ( Also removed them) I told the wife we better jump on it because in our area the exact same boat was selling for 33,000. Drove 3 hours away took it for a test drive then hooked it up to come home. I also bought my boat before selling my other boat so I have the 2 in the garage right now. I can't wait for the XR to sell but then again I will be sad to see her leave. Since buying the AR I have made too many upgrades but that is the fun part. :greedy:

I think I got a great deal last year on my boat. A stock 2009 SX230 for $25,000 in great shape. That's in Canada too, where everything just costs more.

Glad you found us Chilly, kxcam was probably getting lonely being the only Canadian!

I saw I was only the second Canadian. C'mon Canada time to step up and represent!

I purchased my 2006 SX 230 before the 2007 new design came out and told the dealer I wanted it out the door under $30K with hydro turf, hour gage and other accessories (tube/rope/life jackets, etc.). 300 + hours later and have only had it in for oil changes. Extremely happy. Course since the purchase I have added a tower, speakers, amp, fins, keel guard, dual batteries, din plug, trailer mods, removed stickers/decals to make it more livable. Love my "old" boat.

Glad I found you guys. Love my AR. Part of me wants to upgrade to a newer model but mine runs so well can't justify giving it up.

How I came to own our boat... We thought one day that we wanted to sell our lake place. The realtor said she had someone that was interested and I ask if they would want the boat, a 21 foot Lowe deck boat with a 200 hp Yamaha outboard, and the waverunner. She said they would take the waverunner and not the boat. I list the boat on craig's list and it sells in 3 days. Realtor comes back to us and tell us that these potential buyers had walked away from deals before so don't get too excited. This is after I had already sold the boat. I'm sure you can guess what happen...they walked and we had no boat the rest of the summer!! Learned a very good lesson on that one. Well, we never sold and decided to keep the lake house. Feb. 08, 2013 I make a trip to Phil Dill boats and buy my 2008 SX230 with only 47 hours on the engines. So if it hadn't of been for those buyers backing out I may not have ever owned this GREAT!! boat.

I agree, I look at the new models but can't see paying more for a maybe. I already have a boat I love, bought new and have not really had any issues with. The few new bells and whistles imo can't off set the cost of a new boat and maybe new issues.

Oh. I love the term classic 230  I think I will start referring her to my friends that way. And my wife would be a classic 42. Please don't tell her I said that.:D:D:D
