Our host (Digital Ocean) is having issues with their storage layer this evening. It appears to be back up now.

Thank you very much for your patience.

We were experiencing an outage of our block storage service in the NYC1 region, causing issues with droplets using this block storage. This issue should now be resolved.

If you are still experiencing issues with your droplet please power it off and back on again.

I believe the issue was likely caused by a new monitoring system Digital Ocean rolled out earlier today. Regardless their pricing is good and 295 days between short lived issues is not terrible.
