I will be putting on the Goodyear Endurance on the trailer in the next week or so. Ordering and waiting for them to come in. Anyhow, I don't want to upgrade the wheels, so I am going to paint the steel wheels maybe black. I was looking at rustoleum today in the store. Looking for some advice on what to use, just want to make them look a bit better. The wheels will come off and the tires will be put on at a tire shop and high speed balanced. Then I will tape them and then paint them in the garage while they are laying flat.

Any suggestions of paint that will look good and adhere good?

Also did my veve guide pads once the red faded to pink, back to black and it's held up for 2 boating season and looks new

@Crob83 , looks fantastic. Didn't want to spend the extra dough right now. I may change out the boat in the spring and if we decide to keep long term would do plasti dip or get new wheels. Just wanted to paint them to clean the up a bit while I have the wheels off getting new rubber for our trip to Florida coming up.

Plasti dip is paint...comes in a spray can. Watch some youtube videos it is incredible stuff really

@Crob83 Cool stuff just was reading about it. Thought it was something that you had to send out to have it done.

Does it rub off when the boat rubs up hard against the guide posts? Wouldn't it just peel off or get ripped?

No it does neither, that's why it's amazing. It's also on my truck wheels and has been for 3 years. My wife has hit the guide post pad fairly hard to and it did absolutely nothing. The key is to make sure your wheels are prepped and cleaned right before applying. Once that's done I put on 5 coats or so

HangOutdoors,
I know you mentioned you may get new wheels next year. If you do, seriously consider www.recstuff.com. I put all new wheels and tires on our 2018 Yamaha 242 Limited S E trailer. The tires come mounted and balanced. They have been incredible. I have not lost any air with them & I get compliments wherever I go with the boat. They just make the boat look so good. Good luck!!

I had no idea you could use that stuff on soft materials.

I have seen it on a lot of wheels and for people to de-chrome their vehicles. Looks good when it’s done well.

Me neither, I thought I'd give it a go before buying new pads!! Worked perfectly

Going to do the Plasti Dip Friday or Saturday.

Does anyone know the lug nut size? Was thinking getting black or something better looking. Can I source it from an Auto Parts store? 220 AR210 Shorelandr'

Should be able to get it mostly anywhere. Lowes, Ace hardware, etc. Comes in a variety of colors

I got the black Plasti Dip....... Was asking about new Lug Nut size, etc. :)

Plastidip is IMO really used for when you want.to be able to peel.it off. If you're applying a permanent color, it is not the right way to go. It has some.attractove properties in that its each to touch up, but it also doesn't look as good (lots of orange peel), and it gets dirty super quick on wheels.

I'd just go woth a gloss black spray paint with a primer built in. Krylon, duplicolor, whatever. It'll look a lot better.

Couldn't find it yesterday, but here it is on my truck wheels, only thing I will say bad about it that it's not very shiny looking. Even if you use the glosser. Other than it hold up better IMO than regular spray paint. My neighbor painted his with Krylon and it looked good for a few years, but needs redone already

I agree to an extent, if your looking for a permanent color you might as well get them powder coated or buy them that color. No spray can paint on rims is going to be "permanent". But @HangOutdoors if you want glossy looking black the other brands would be better

I disagree. Proper prep and finishing and spray paint is just as durable and is permanent. Scuff the wheel, lay down a primer or tack layer, put your color on, it'll look good and last. Spray a 2k clear over it, also available in cans, and it'll last as long as your cars paint.

Well I didn't buy the Plasti dip yet. Maybe Paint and Primer like Krylon or something is the way to go. Although I will pick up a can of Plasti dip, it looks really cool.
