Does anyone here get into photography and what type of camera does everyone use?

I have a Pentax K-30 with it's Weather-sealed poly-carbonate body, This camera has been perfect for my active lifestyle.

I do, a little. Wish I had time to do more. Canon EOS 50D.

I still dabble a little. Used to be fairly serious...
Portfolio stuff here: http://www.jimmarch.com/ Site is so old it still uses Flash! :p

Currently use a Nikon D800 and a Nikon D7000 when I want something lighter weight.

I considered the D800 but I really like the idea of water resistant (Not water proof) when we go boating, I liked your studio work it looks really professional. I need to learn how to use some of the different software's so I can get as good as you are.

All of the Pro level Nikon's are 'weather-sealed' for what it's worth...

I'm really not sure how they define that. Mine has been in the rain quite a few times, and even took a dip in Hawaii.

I fell while crossing a shallow, but slippery, river. The camera took the full force hit on the rocks below while completely submerged.

It actually broke the battery door off of the body. I took it out, put it in rice for a day or so... I got a new battery and it fired right up!

The only thing that wasn't working was the Flash. It would fire, but wasn't properly exposing.

Took both of these AFTER completely submerging my camera!

Ok yeah.... I don't recall seeing anything like this in the D800 marketing material... :P

I have the
Pentax Optio WG-2 GPS White Adventure Series 16 MP Waterproof Digital Camera with 5 X Optical Zoom and GPS that I bought to take on Mud Runs that does double duty on the boat.

It can't compete with an SLR, but it's a lot of fun, and completely waterproof! I also like that it has the built in GPS and geotags all my photos.

My wife and I bought a Nikon 5100 kit a few years ago. It's great when we use it but so far we haven't been able to justify the hassle of carrying and caring for it for the handful of shots we take at the event we are at. We have used it while boating, I especially like using the 300 mm vr (vibration reduction) lens to take sequential shots of people tubing and wakeboarding but our Olympus sport cameras get a lot more use. This summer it looks like the pocket cameras and Nikon will collect dust while the gopro possibly two become my default camera(s) and my wife wants to buy a sony lens with 10x optical zoom that clips onto her iPhone.

Here are some pics from each of the types of cameras my family uses, the quality varies but so does the application/environment each camera is used in.

Notes:

1. All pics were taken at the respective camera's highest resolution except the Olympus pics which were taken in low res, so that I could post them on YJB.

2. The Olympus is water proof to 10' as well as drop and temperature resistant, it also floats.

I use a Sony A65 and a couple of great lenses. I also have a Sony A55 backup. One of the lenses is weather resistant but not the body. I use a cheap Fujifilm XP60 for casual shots on the boat but I'm not afraid to bring the A55 on board.

I spent six hours taking photos at the wonderful Nethercutt Museum of impeccably restored cars. The rest of the 235 images are here

Right now the camera that has the most excited has to be the Nikon 1 V3.

Totally compact camera for just taking anywhere.
I would say 'prosumer' level interchangeable lens built for that body.
Basically smaller, lighter weight lenses....

But here is the deal... You get the Nikon FT-1 F-Mount Adapter and now you can use ANY Nikon lens with that body!!!

@Ronnie now your 300mm VR has the field of view of an 810mm VR!!!! :D

I believe it shoots full resolution photos at 20 FPS while using autofocus.

Also does video at 60 and 120 fps, I think the same as what GoPro does...

This will never ever replace my D800, or what I use it for. But I do think it could replace my D7000.

There is a good write up on DPReview.

Some things that caught my eye.
This camera is arguably the most enthusiast-oriented Nikon mirrorless yet, with an advanced autofocus system, twin control dials, super-fast continuous shooting (with AF), Raw support, and 1080/60p video.
Something that enthusiasts may not appreciate is that none of the dials can directly control exposure compensation, even in full manual mode.
The Nikon 1 V1 and V2 are two cameras that are not frequently discussed among camera enthusiasts. Nikon is hoping to change that, and the V3's state-of-the-art autofocus system and incredibly fast continuous shooting modes may catch the eye of those looking for a second camera to sit alongside something higher-end.

I have never been able to get a shot of the moon with such clarity what lens were you using?

Arguable the most versatile camera I have ever seen

Many moons ago I used to do Underwater Photography. It's actually what got me into regular old photography!

Diving with a rig like this:

...is challenging to say the least. But you learn way more about photography doing the underwater stuff.

You have to get very good at balancing ambient light vs. strobe light. And at the time I was shooting, there were no auto exposing strobes (i.e. iTTL, eTTL, etc...).

Not the greatest images or even composition, but really this was me learning back in the day.

Detonate, "Not the greatest images...." Are you kidding? The pics look awesome too me, it's what I'd expect to see in a Diving magazine.

I just checked out the Nikon 1 v3, I'm sure it's as good as you outlined but the $1,200 price stopped me from to looking to closely. I don't think the Nikon 5100 Kit I have was that much. Incidentally, that's what a DJI Phantom 2 Vision quad-copter (i.e., flying camera) costs as well.

Ha! Much appreciated. But hang out on the WetPixel forums for awhile and you'll see what I'm talking about...

A forum member, Eric Cheng, has had his images displayed in the Smithsonian Natural History Museum!!!

That's the sigma 70-200mm f/2.8. It's equivalent to 105-300mm on the APS-C sensor. It's a great lens. Very sharp.

It took me a while to get the settings right. Turn the OIS off. Don't use max zoom where the lens looses a tad of clarity. Autofocus did a good job but manual focus was even better. The Somy A65 has a Peaking focus feature that assists focus for fixed objects. Also I used a 10 second shutter delay.

Great octopus shot. In 20 years of diving I've seen a few but didn't do much night diving. They are rarely stationary. To have your camera ready at that moment and capture that shot is great. Good exposure.
