So for nothing other than my own morbid curiosity, Is it possible to take a pontoon boat from Fort Lauderdale to Bimini? So little back story. 4th of July weekend went out with a friend who has a 26' Tritoon With a 250hp motor hanging off the back. With just a few people on it we were doing 48 to 50 mph, every wave that we hit the boat barely moved. Full disclosure it was not that rough but there was a lot of wake from other boats. Bring on the floating living Room haters lol.

My geography is a little rusty. Is that a comparable ride to that of the Bimini trip (as far as open water distances? Or would that generally be a smoother trip being a different direction in the ocean? Is the Gulf Stream still in play?

on a 2018 crossing anything would make it to Bimini , on a 2017 condition, well you know better that me

It’s over 300 miles, 100 of open ocean. They could stop at Marco island or Key West for fuel, Key West is a little bit out of the way. They have to pass the Florida straits that can be rough and unpredictable. People hellbent on freedom from Cuba have made it to Florida in homemade rafts. Like with any ocean crossing it has to do with weather.7ECF8548-980E-4C3E-BC27-270C64AD7ABD.jpeg

Tahoe did it in perfect conditions. More of a stunt than a practical usage. I would not.

My kids call pontoon boats floating family minivans. We see everything from the cheapest and most worn out (pick a low cost brand) to the fanciest and biggest tritoons available. The last one that really sticks in my head is a tritoon with at least a 9' beam with twin 425 Yamaha outboards. It just looked expensive!

As far as taking a pontoon boat offshore, IMO it would have to be a tritoon with twin outboards with plenty of fuel and the necessary safety equipment. It really wouldn't be any different then taking out one of our boats. It's still a lake boat out on the open ocean.

You could in perfect weather. I have seen those pontoon to Cuba Videos they get into trouble in big seas on the way back and have to call it short of their final destination back home.

Guys there is no ocean between the US and Cuba. Just sayin lol

That video looks like it would be a fun trip on a tritoon.

That’s right and the Gulf Stream stars north of Miami. Nothing but calm water between Miami and Havana

Plenty of unfriendly water between the keys and cuba.
