So I was contacted by a representative from Pop Yachts wanting to market my boat for sale. Has anyone actually sold a boat with them? I have read posts where some have had their boats listed with them but not actually completed a sale. I'm curious what the overall experience was like. Any help is appreciated.

Every PopYachts listing I have seen was horribly overpriced. I do not see how they could be helpful to anyone other than themselves.

If you're looking to sell, check a local broker that lists quality used boats. I did and hard a great experience. At the end of the day, I got the same money I would have, but didn't have the healer of sho we int, washer using, making sure the charcoal was legit. Well worth the 10%

I have not sold through them but when I was looking to buy they kept sending me boats that were totally different in price/style/location to what I had told them I was looking for, when I asked them to stop, a broker replied and was very condescending and rude so I personally would not have any dealing with them as my overall impression was that they don't know/care about what they try to sell.

Agree with the above poster who said their boats seem very overpriced and the description of the condition often does not match the photos.

I agree that their pricing is quite inflated. They want to mark up my boat about $2500 on top of my listing price. They likely would not get that but I'm not exactly sure what my downside would be as I am not paying their commission, they are adding it to my price. My only thought is that is gets more exposure for my boat at no cost to me.

I have already had some interest on my boat without their help, so it may be a non-issue. Just looking for some feedback from anyone that may have actually sold a boat through them.

I am not even sure what they claim to do. I assume they just list an overpriced boat on various sites and charge whatever % when it sells? It's one thing to use a broker for specialty boats, but I don't see the point these days for something like a Yamaha.

One downside could be potential buyers not wanting to deal with them and their markups and ignoring their listing.

True but I am still able to market the boat on my own as well. They are only due commission if they sell it. If I sell on my own, as long as they were not first contacted by my buyer, they get nothing. If anything I would think the additional exposure, even at an inflated price, cannot be bad.

If that's how it works, then I agree. So does their commission only come out of the price difference from your baseline and what that they sell for? What happens if a buyer negotiates down the markup, and they sell it closer to your original price? Do they not charge commission in that situation?

I think this is the more likely scenario. A buyer is unlikely to pay more just because Pop Yachts is marketing the boat. I would pay less because if a broker is involved I have to pay sales tax but if I buy directly from you I do not. That is the way it is in Arkansas I do not know how many other states have similar tax laws.

That seems like a big loophole in Arkansas. In Texas (maybe I am wrong) the buyer is responsible regardless. Either a dealer is going to collect the sales tax, or if you are buying from an individual, you will pay the same amount in a use tax when registering.

Pop Yachts prices are way over priced and a lot of listing I notice are listed for a long time
I actually found my 2015 Yamaha from boat trader from a private seller

I too was contacted and perpetually requested to list with them. I never did because I had better luck locally.

POP marks it up a flat 10%. Any negotiated offers they will contact you about first - they'll still get their 10%. You're not wrong, it's good marketing and to anyone that knows how to play the game, it can help. Anytime I was boat shopping and found something listed by POP I was interested in, I'd hunt down the local craigslist for that area and see if I could find it listed there by the seller. I had them list one of my boats, it didn't really help, but it didn't hurt either. I dam sure wasn't gonna spend the money to advertise it on a national level, and I still had my own listing locally. I ended up selling it locally, and it was a simple email to them to let them know. They replied asking if I sold it to a list of about 30 names or so that I imagine had browsed it on their website. I said no, they said ok, thanks.
