Has anyone used Prepsol to clean their deck prior to Seadek install? I know most people use Acetone but I have a gallon of Prepsol lying around so I thought I might be able to use it.

I used it on cars for years but not sure how it affects gelcoat.

Thanks

Pretty much anything with some kind of alcohol, ethanol in it will work. Just make sure you clean with dry rag and I would use something like Mr. Awesome to clean up residue after use. Wax any areas that is not covered by seadek but got chemicals on.

When you get around to doing your SeaDek install I would advise against using any shop rag, shirt or towel that has color because the dye will transfer off the rag and onto the gel coat as you use the solvent. I suggest using an old white tshirt instead. Don't use paper towels either because the textured non-slip of the bare floor will cause the paper towels to crumble into little boogers of paper towel making it a pain to clean.

Learn from my mistakes when I first started laying mine out.
Yes, I have plenty of old white t shirts Thanks

For added excitement levels and bonus, you can use one of your wife's or GF's shirt/blouse and see how that goes rather than mess up one of your own tshirts :D

On a more serious note I would also suggest wearing some jeans or sweat pants because if you wear shorts and on your knees installing, the textured non-slip will for sure give you some awesome knee rash :D. There are a few other tips here that may help you when its time Loving the SeaDek kit!

Not trying that my friend. I just got yelled at by the wife for putting stuff in the dryer that wasn't supposed to go in. Next time I will let her do it

lol I can relate. I did that once to my wife's clothes and I guess I shrunk them. More heat = faster drying time = more time to do important manly stuff right lol?! Ever since then I've not had to do laundry :D. It works both ways though as I made the mistake of letting her cut the grass once....

My wife used to always ask if she could cut the grass. I let her the 1st couple of times and it looked like she was drunk trying to walk the white line. After that I kept saying no sweetly, I got it. I think she finally got the hint because she hasn't asked in a looonnnggg time.

You know how they like to vacuum the house and have those vacuum lines going every which way so it will look "clean and freshly vacuumed"? Yea that's how she cut the grass..... like she's freaking vacuuming the house :banghead:. To say I had some crazy patterns in the lawn would be an understatement :muted:.

Holy crap...that would take a long time and a lot of effort.

Careful guys, this is a public forum and any words can and will be used against you.

For Maximum effect, cut once at slightly higher height setting, then lower back down and carefully run perpendicular lines. The small height difference will create a very interesting effect. Don't ask how I know.
