Welcome.. someone who knows a hell of a lot more than me will be with u shortly. Your forum is valuable to us, it will be answered in the order it was recieved.

No really I know nothing about the boat u r discussing but there are a lot of people on here that do!

Please hold..

@Speedling, I know you rebuilt your engines. Do you have any advice here?

@robert cabrerea, can you expand on the PTO failure? Did the front bearing that the drive shaft goes through fail?

So on this diagram did you replace part 5? Or was it part 5 plus some others?

Is water leaking through part 5 or is it possibly leaking around it?

Did you grease the shaft when reinstalling it?

The pumps are for all intents and purposes the same as on the new boats except for a couple changes here and there.
In any case, before we try ANYTHING else and make any suggestions, we need to be SURE where the leak is coming from. There are a LOT of different possibilities here.

I recommend parking the boat on a slope if you have one, block the wheels, crank the tongue up all the way. Then, get the hose up in there and start filling.
If water can get in that fast, then it can go out that fast. Once it starts coming out, take pictures, take video, make mental notes, draw with crayons on the hull, do everything you can to be sure you know where it's coming from. Then we can start just taking things apart.

It could be bearings, sleeves, gaskets, etc. etc. etc. Hopefully this helps pinpoint the problem!

ALSO, you SHOULD be able to have the pump removed for this, right?

Thanks gentleman I replaced the whole part as one unit shaft and bearing housing together. The water looks like its coming through the rubber part. Surounding the shaft. I will post pics soon

Is the shaft possibly worn or damaged in that area? Did you use moly grease when you installed the shaft?

Did you replace the bearing with a used unit? Do you have any knowledge of whether or not the used part worked before you bought it?

Yes I did grease the shaft. But it was a used part. I take it that this is not a normal trait of our machines.

I have very rarely read about water coming through these bearings. And yes keeping water on the outside of the boat is pretty important!

I see two likely possibilities. One would be that the new used bearing has issues that allow water to leak through it. The other is that the original bearing froze and the shaft was damaged spinning inside the bearing. The rubber portion of that bearing is the seal keeping the water under the boat.

The condition of the used part was better than the photo with very little play in the shaft. The difficulty level of the r&r was a real pain. But Now that I am familiar I could try again.

Another tbought on this, can you you see where the grease goes into that bearing? We are supposed to add a little grease every year to a zerk near the back of the engine that leads to that bearing. My understanding is that the grease does not lubricate the bearing but helps it remain sealed.

Did you apply grease to the bearing? Do you understand how it helps with the seal and if so could you explain it to the rest of us?

Oh wow ...the original failed catastrophicly and was badly rusted out. I think you found my problem.

I beleive that parts 13 to 15 are the hose that leads to the zirk. Do you have those parts? Did you add any grease? Too much grease will blow out the seal. If you have a service manual it should document the correct amount.
