Your ”aft” light is your anchor light. At night the anchor or aft light has to be on from sundown to sunup if you are either anchored on the water or are running.
Your NAV light switch should be a two position switch, I believe the UP position has your red/green bow lights on as well as the anchor light, this is the position you use while underway and lets other boaters know that you are underway, and depending on which bow light they see they know which way you are headed. In the DOWN position only the anchor light is on and lets other boaters know that you are at anchor / moored and are not moving.
You can look at your anchor light bulb and then look up a LED replacement if you want to that will reduce the amp draw on that bulb by 90%. I did this and the bulb is also brighter than the stock incandescent bulb.
