Quick oil question

I did a quick search, maybe missed the answer?? Anyways, on the 242LS are you checking the oil on the water or off? Also engine cold, warm or hot? Leaving in an hour please help.

Fast oil answer! On the water or use a level on the air induction filter housing...... run for several minutes if on the water then let it sit for a few minutes, then check with motors leveled....(I am not aware of any differences in procedure that are boat specific, but if there are please correct me and I can learn too!)

We check them cold and level, and look for oil on the MIN level on the dipstick, then again once on the lake after running the engines for a while. We keep tools and spare oil/filters/plugs in a box in the engine compartment along with a spare fire extinguisher, and an emergency bottle of tequila.......

Magic describes it well for the MR-1 boats. But the 1.8s are much easier. Just check it hot, warm, cold, it doesnt matter. Fill to full on the dipstick just like you would your car. Sitting on the water or relatively level ground on the trailer is fine.

Yes, yes it is.....I usually lay the dipstick on a clean paper towel without sliding it, just roll it over. The oil will show up on the paper towel.
