Radio Static

Just installed a new stereo. Radio stations have a lot of static for the first five minutes then it seems to clear up. Everything else works fine. Doesn't matter if the engines are running or not. Any stereo experts out there?

Yes. There is only static when I turn the radio on for the first 5 minutes. After that reception is great.

What components do you have? Amp? Eq?

It's pretty basic. Just the head unit and 4 speakers. The stereo didn't work when I bought the boat so I can't comment on how it was previously. I just seems odd that CD player works fine all the time but the radio is full of static for 5min and works fine after that. I'm going to try a different antenna tomorrow.

If it was a ground or power problem. Why would it clear up after a few minutes and wouldn't it effect the CD player too?

No clue. Just running down the basic checks.

But I think you just answered your original question. Maybe a bad tuner?

Thanks for those who tried to help. Problem solved by returning the stereo. Decided to upgrade to the fusion ip600. Works great. Also, replaced stock speakers with four 7" fusion speakers.
