I'm starting to plan some of my summer boating trips and I usually boat at kinzua dam reservoir but I'm thinking of taking a few trips to raystown lake. Does anyone know of good places to camp that we can leave the boats in the water for the weekend? I know this lake gets pretty busy so I'm trying to plan in advance.

Nancys boat to shore is a blast. You can only get to it by water. We usually launch ftom the James Creek Boat Launch. It's mid lake, nice gradual shore line to tie up. If you stay to the right side, while looking from the water, much more trees and shade. No reservations, just pull up and claim your site. It's rustic, so no running water or bath houses, but they do have toilets. However, you can use the bath houses at Seven Springs resort if you stay at Nancys.

Other than that, you can reserve a site at Seven Springs or Raystown Resort. They have all the facilities, but tends to be more crowded.

Either way, great times to be had at Raystown.

Thanks for the response. That's what we do at kinzua dam so it's nice to see we can do that at raystown as well. Does it usually fill up quick on the weekends?

It can get crowded, but I haven't seen it 100% full. We usually go up on Thursday to beat the weekend rush.

I have Fridays off so I would probably just go up in the morning. Thanks for the information. Gonna have to check it out this year.

So I don't know if you heard the latest news or not but they are changing Nancy's boat to shore to reservation only now. I joined a Facebook group for Nancy's and someone took a picture of the sign with a notice on it saying this was going into affect. Sucks I liked the fact that I was going to be able to just go and set up camp on whatever spot I wanted.

Haven't seen or heard that...

Love Raystown Lake! It's the biggest reason why i bought a boat this year. My family has a cabin just north of Huntingdon and I put in at Snyder's Run. Nice wide runs for tubing and skiing. My wife doesn't like tents so we have rented cabins on the lake at Raystown Resort. There are plenty of cabins that back right up to the water and offer nice area to tie up. Also have picnic tables, fire ring and a store to buy fire wood if needed. Can't wait for summer... that lake is going to see my boat a lot!
