When we decided back in January that we needed to sell our beloved 400 Express to eliminate some expenses. We also said that we wanted to do some upgrades to the Yamaha since she would become our primary, and only, boat for a while. But the big boat had to sell first! Well, she sold last month. So I contacted 'my guy' to line up what I wanted and when he could get to it. He stays rather busy, especially in the spring, and was 2 weeks out from being able to get to it. He wasn't able to get to it till after Memorial day weekend which ended up being ok because the weather kinda sucked that weekend. However, the following 2 weekends have more than made up for it.
Many years ago I upgraded all the speakers and added amps and a sub and rear swim deck speakers, but kept the stock JBL headunit because it still worked and keeping a budget. This go around it was time to replace the headunit with a unit that is the latest in current technology. Decided to go with Fusion because of the ease of use, known durability, and previous experience having them in our big boats.
Since it's on the passenger side and the captain needs to have control of the tunes, we needed a remote at the helm. Well, I also wanted a chartplotter/fishfinder unit too. So we killed 2 birds with one stone with a Garmin 93sv.
Yes, that's a 9 inch screen! It's awesome! We were at anchor at one of our favorite spots so I had the stereo controls on the screen. And yes it's all touchscreen and yes you can see it clearly in direct sun. It came with a transducer for sideview as well as down view and it's fun to play with, especially when your 12 yo son loves to fish. That takes care of the helm remote duties so I put a 'normal' full function remote on the transom. I also replaced the Polk UM650MM speakers on the transom that were not working properly with a pair of JL 650's that have the built in backlit LEDs.
I also added LED speaker rings to the 4 cockpit speakers.
I can control all the LEDs with this little remote.
We took the boat out for an evening cruise to test out the lights. Was my wife's idea so I didn't want to disappoint! She said to me as we were coming back into the marina, "these lights are really nice to have". I couldn't have said it better myself.
We are very happy with these newest additions. Even though none of the amps or cockpit speakers were changed, they seemed to have been awoken with the new sound from the Fusion.
I want to send a shout out to @bronze_10 for helping me to figure out how to mount my Garmin with a Seasucker mount on the windshield. It's perfect and very stable!
