I am going to have to remove grout from my Son's tile in his bathroom and although it does not look like a big job I do not want to do it with a hand grout tool. So I am looking for recommendations that is either electrical or cordless and also the best type of grout blade . I thought I would ask here as I have seen how talented most of you are and no doubt many of you have removed grout from tiles.
thanks[flag]

I am doing the same research as well. It seems that the 2 best options are the Dremel grout removal attachment or the multi-tool grout removal blade (oscillating tool). I've purchased both but have not gotten around to starting the project.

Thank you for the response. I did look at the Dremel however it did not seem to get high marks so I am looking at a multitool. Can you tell the name of the oscillating tool that you will be using and also the name of the multi tool grout removal blade.
Thanks[flag]

I have a porter cable oscillating tool and a PC3030 blade.

I have never done tile grout removal but I have 19 years in masonry experience. I would really recommend something with a water attachment or a vacuum attachment.
The new big deal in safety is silica inhalation.
If I were to do it, I would probably get a grinder with a tuckpointing wheel.

Thank you I appreciate the advice. I will look to see what Lowe’s has they offer a Military discount and I pay no tax in Delaware [flag]

A diamond blade on a grinder will work quickly, but also cut tiles if you are not careful. The vibrating tools are the next best.

Just break out the big gas saw and get it over with! Ha!

Just don't dust yourself out!

Well I went and bought the DeWalt at Lowes for a couple of reasons most of my cordless tools are Dealt and I already have batteries. It was also on sale and with my Military discount I saved another 10% plus no sales tax. Probably will get to this task next week so will let you know how it goes.[flag]

As @Speedling says...Use a mask, vacuum, & blow a fan out the bathroom window. That silica is tough on the lungs, eyes & skin. I know some tile guys who no longer use cement board in bathrooms because of the silica when cutting it.

I have used a utility knife in the past and got great results. But if you have wide grout joints you’ll need to go another route.
