Removal of Connection Cord from Tower Pin

Does anyone know how to remove the plastic connection cord from the pin.

From the picture it looks like you just have to drive out the pin on the black handle using a small punch.
 
Or cut it using a utility knife.
 
I ended up cutting it off but would like to replace with new ones. Just don't know how to put the new one on.
 
Looks like there's a roll pin holding the plastic handle on the machined part. Can you see the roll pin from both sides of the handle? If so perhaps push the roll pin out, handle should slide off then, replace new plastic retaining cable, slide handle back on and align with roll pin holes, insert roll pin (it will be tight) = profit?
