Has anyone done a actual test between running with the insert Sleeve and without. I have read a lot of advice and seen where people just remove the ribbon with installing the sleeve. I can’t see where it would make a difference. 2018 212 limited s

Technically, the airflow will be more turbulent without the ring. But you would need a dyno to see the difference and even then I doubt you could see it. I installed the ring because it made me feel better that something was put back in place of the ribbon and it will hold the rubber piece in. But if you don't want to do that, make sure you remove the rubber piece, and rock on.

Thanks. I’ll probably order them for the same reason. I was just curious

So I did the ribbon delete about 2 weeks ago, (twin 1.8's) installed the new ring with original rubber gasket. I had already installed slip on K & N Filters earlier in the year.

Was out last weekend and for the first the first time in a long time opened it up wide open, (ok , got into a race with another 24 ft Yamaha.)

Looked down and I was at 8000 rpms and running 53 miles an hour, my heart about stopped, never been close to 8000 RPM before, thought I am going to blow these motors up. I didn't, but shut it down. I had about 60% of fuel and 2 people on board.

Any body else ever see 8000 RPM's?

it should have a rev limiter. I’ve seen a video of 1.8 turning well above 8000rpm it was on a 2018 Yamaha vxr 1.8ho It’s the same engine as ours. Not sure if the ecm is different but they gave that 1.8 hell and it seemed to hold up. Maybe someone will chime in.

@Mike Clark

8k isn't an issue. I had in my head the rev limiter was around 7,900 though. As an FYI, my tach needle reads slightly lower (~200rpm) than the digital tach. My guess is if you saw 8k on the needle, you were closer to 7,800-7,900.

Here's a post where @swatski is talking about a reflash with a new rev limiter, and the stock limiter being at 7,800. Different boat, same engines. Says he was over 8k and holding back at that point. That's a long thread with lots of talk about tunes in it if you have time to read it's worthwhile IMO.

I can't get mine about 7500 RPMs in central ohio, 45MPH is fast as I've gone. Indian Lake is 1000ft above sea level, not sure if thats the cause or the Cali tuned engines I have. Oh, I do have ribbons deleted.

I have a stock 2018 212 limited s I’m seeing 51mph with two adults three kids full tank of gas. Not sure the rpms but will check this weekend. Honestly thought that speed was normal until reading all these post. I’ll check my rpms and see but I wanted to do a ribbon delete. I might need to check and see if it’s already been done. We bought the boat used with 25hours on it

Not to turn this into a "max speed" thread but my GPS shows a max speed of 52mph, which was done with 2 adults on smooth water and a tailwind. On a "normal" day it seems to top about about 49mph on GPS. I would guess that more variation in max speeds caused from; boat load, impeller/wear ring condition and environmental conditions than ribbons vs no ribbons- that being said I will probably still pull mine at some point hoping for a little more low end torque when towing.

2014 Limited S, 55ish hours, all stock (no ribbon delete)
