The rubber ring on my manhole cover plug was shredding and wouldn't seat. I was actually away from the dock when I discovered this, so to limp home I had to cut most of the ring off to be able to get the plug to seat. I've ordered the repair kit but it's at least a week away. Do you think it's safe to operate the boat without most of that rubber ring? The plug is seated and locked. (Yamaha FSH 190)

You will most likely get a lot of water to pass buy the plug and it will end up in the bilge. All you can do is put it in the water and check how bad. My guess is it will be bad and you will lack thrust
