Went to the moomba dealer Thursday to get the AR195 appraised. Had a bet with my wife about what they would would offer. She said $24k I said $28k. We were not going to take either. Sometime yesterday morning we got a text with the number. $30k we were quite taken back. We decided to take the offer and give them the boat in 3 weeks. Mind you we came very close to keeping it as a second boat. But my wife wants a pop up towable trailer. So fully expecting to pick it up today and go out tomorrow for Father's day we realized something. The next 3 weekends and some weekdays we are out of town. So we made the decision to let the dealer take it now and wait impatiently for the new boat to come. I going to miss the versatility but it's nice to have my garage back.

That’s a great price they gave you and I wouldn’t have hesitated either. When is your spray date for the Makai and when are you going up to the factory?

we will have the spray date next week. Dealer just told me no more changes so he's expecting it any day. As soon as we know I'll let you know when we plan on going.

Gotcha and congrats! You are getting close once the dealer tells you no more changes. It takes them 7-10 days to build the boat so if you can, try and plan your factory tour during the time it's being built. I would schedule it towards the end of your build so you can see it coming together and it will resemble more of an actual boat than just the hull and top deck. I think I went when mine was about 80% complete. A woman was doing some interior panel installs when I saw mine towards the end of the production line and then they did the water test later that day or the following day. About a week later my boat was at my dealer but keep in mind we are only 4 hours away from the factory. Congrats again and keep us posted on your build. Your dealer can get a few build pics of your boat if you ask them and Cindy at Skiers a Choice will send them over to your dealer. Just don't post them anywhere, as hard as it may feel lol, because they don't like for them to go public with build pics.

OK will do thank you for the advice. Yeah I'm trying to figure out just when we will get her. I can't wait to start really surfing.

just fyi, i also live in washington so if you get to missing the jet too much we can do a boat swap for a day ??

I spent all day Friday on a fully loaded 2019 Malibu MKZ 24 with a couple of world pro ronix/malibu wakeboarders. 4 wake sets and 1 surf set has given me the bug very bad. I was doing a lot wrong so to fix my bad habits we were running no ballast in the boat for me. That wake with no ballast was similar in size to my fully ballasted yami 242. That said you don’t need a huge wake to wakeboard and it is much more about body position and edge. As for surfing a bigger wave is always better but body position and balance matter just as much as the wave. One thing for sure is that if you can wake and surf well behind jet boat you will still be able to do the same behind a tow boat bu with more amplitude and less annoying jet wash. The other way around is a surprise for some.

I am not going to be buying a 150k+ tow boat anytime soon but a budget tow boat like a moomba max just may be in my future.

One plug for taking lessons is that I was about to give up on wakeboarding with my lower back always hurting. It was my self taught body position causing it. It needs to be more like salmon water skiing and less like super gs downhill snow skiing. Gigantic difference in my comfort once I got use to the feeling. Also needed a bit of a vocabulary/terminology lesson to communicate well with one of my coaches. Don’t be afraid to make sure you understand what someone is trying to communicate to you.

Pretty telling. Not even ballasted up and the wake was the same as a fully ballasted yamaha.

@Mainah Salmon water skiing sounds......um.....INTERESTING!!! How big of salmon will I need to float my 230 lb ass??!!! :D

Yes once you get bit by the bug it's pretty bad rash and itch ;). I never cared to try wakeboarding as the falls just look brutal sometimes if you catch an edge or something. It does look fun but I'll settle for pulling someone on a wakeboard rather than try it. I don't mind driving and setting up the wake as that is fun for me too. Can't wait to get my boat back dammit so I can play with the wave some more. Going to have to use my 750 lb fatsac on the floor to hold me over on those light crew days until I can afford the wakemakers kit ($1k).

The wakemaker kit is a g? How much weight does it add? Is it just the upgraded rear or does it add kids hip? I can get you like 1000lb of lead for a grand. When do you get her back? We are trying to see if our large.cooker will fit in the rear storage since I'm putting 300lb of lead under each rear bag

Only thing is I wouldn't want to tote 1k of lead in the trailer lol. It would be beyond its limits I believe (depending on trailer build options) not to mention suck more fuel hauling all that in the hills lol. Maybe you live by the water but we trailer everywhere.

The wakemakers kit is upgraded rear bags and adding large midship bags along with all the fittings and lines done. I can't remember how much ballast it adds since they took it off their site while they made upgrades for 2019 Max kit. A lot of guys simply add midship bags and plumb them off the stock rear bags though. I may go that route once I reorganize our storage to the OB bow. For now I'll just use the tsunami pump to hold us over on the lighter days. Really wished I had my GoPro when 13 people were in it!! I should hopefully get her back by next weekend. Service dept was swamped with all the new boat owners bringing their boats back in.

I think the Makai has fairly deep bins so depending on your cooker size it may fit. We have a small Coleman propane grill from like the 70's but we never take it with us. We should but we normally just pack sandwiches and stuff in the cooler.

Yeah I saw the midship bags. My dealer said they basically add those to every Max. I think I can add 600lbs or so of lead. The other 400lbs will just be in the truck. I'm not sure how much extra weight I can add to the trailer tho. I did add the upgraded axle and Jack. We live 10 miles from 1 lake and about 45-50 miles from 4 different lakes. So we are pretty close. I will always make the homies load the lead lol. I also don't want to lug it all around but really want to keep my storage for long days and camping trips. But after a season we will know what storage gets used and what I can get rid of for bags. If you upgrade to those come with sensors also? I still think with 4000lb lb stock ballast and a 1000lbs of people will make a killer wave compared to the AR195.

when I get it dialed we can go out and surf, it's such a massive boat the more the merrier. I can fit my entire AR195 inside the makai cockpit lol.

I would love to wakeboard but I spend enough time crashing on my snowboard 4 months a year. Surfing crashes just don't hurt?

The Max may be considered a "budget" tow boat but it's a really fucking nice boat. I'd be the proud owner of one if my dad didn't have to have the nicest of everything. We looked at the Supras for $60k more than the Makai. Even tho we prob could have scrounged the money for it, we couldn't really see the $60k increase in price. I went out a few weeks ago with a doomswell rep to demo some boards. He owns a Pavati for reference. He said his homie has a 2018 Max and it's the second best wave he rides. Granted he's put 1500lbs of lead in it to get it dialed but still.

Yup with the WM bags the Max really starts to shine! What’s crazy is 1/3 of the wave isn’t even visible lol. As @Arcadyus mentioned it may be budget price level for a wake boat but it’s far from budget feeling! No regrets with ours so far!!

WM kit for reference....

No doubt those Moomba boats offer great value! if this is what you want to do. Even the ginormous Makai, the base price is around 90k albeit at that price you probably get plywood seats and need to bring your own racks, lol, but still - awfully close to 242X.

Racks lol those get pricey. We didn't even get racks and our build was over $105k. They actually start at $80k. But we don't wakeboard and the bimini holds 2 surfboards, (bimini is $1700).Racks BTW are a $2900 upgrade. If you'd like I can post my build specs so you can see what comes stock lol.

I see what you are doing here...
Trying to give us, jetboaters, a sense of massive epididymal hypertension (EH)!
(AKA blue balls)

This didn't include underwater lights or the wind screen. Those were another $600 I believe. Also doesn't include the $5000 in freight. But with that it was $110k and we got it for a cool $99k.
