I put this list togethor for an Adults Only weekend we had back in August. Lots of good music in here. Mostly country, or 90's throwback (we're all mid 90's graduates, so it was entertaining). Have a few alternative songs I stuck in there for me that aren't as "popular".......If you sort most of the rap/hip-hop out of it, you should be in a pretty "family friendly" list.
I really like singer/songwriter type stuff. My go-tos would be Emmylou Harris, loving this new country girl Ashley Mcbryde. Anything Ryan Adams. Speaking of him, if you’ve discounted Taylor Swift in the past because it’s too “pop”, check out his version of the 1989 album. It showcases her songwriting ability like you wouldn’t believe. Mix in some Waylon Jennings for good measure. Laid back, that’s how I roll.
Man, even suggesting that “music” would be cause for being thrown overboard!! Just kidding! I appreciate you taking the time for a lengthy reply, however I don’t care for that stuff/ I’m an old Rock n Roller and come from a family of musicians and all four of my college age children are rock musicians as well. I like some laid back and rocking country, reggae and island music, but hip hop and modern r&b is not what I dig, especially when children and lady’s are around. But hey, to each their own as long as you’re having fun on your boat.

Haha! I might feel the same way about most country music... whenever someone would ask me if I liked country music, my response was, "It depends on the girl I'm with..." I guess I'm thankful to some degree my wife isn't a country fan either...

I actually am more a fan of classic rock. Unfortunately, the kids and their friends are not so I let them pick whatever they want to stream from Amazon music. And if my wife and her friends are on board, they prefer pop/R&B. And when there is drinks involved, anything that they can move to. If we are with the neighbors and that group of friends, we play the first list which is more island/party country.
If it's just me an mywife, we are typically listening to Grateful Dead, CCR, Beatles, Dire Straights or similar. My boat, before it went up in flames, was named Sunshine Daydream with a big steal your face on the back step.
That being said, I listen to anything as long as people are having fun. If a song has the power to get people up and have a good time, it goes on one of my lists.
What I don't like is heavy techno/EDM that I hear at our main party cove...wish there was a technology to jam their sound systems.
