I live in Aiken, SC and have an interest in making a trip down the Savannah River from Augusta to Savannah. Has anyone tried this trip? Any tips or advice? Any interest fom other members to make the trip?

I haven’t dealt with the lock system, so I’m most interested to understand how that works. Thanks in advance!

I have not done this. Friend did it on kayaks with boy scout troop and we talked about doing it with jetskis before we sold them.

I've looked at this very briefly and not sure the amount of fuel stops along the way would be my concern

I was a bit concerned on the fuel, not sure if there’s much of anything on the river.

I'm across the river from you in Evans GA. I've asked about this to local guys and they questioned why I wanted to do it because there's not much of anything on the river. The other thing was that the river washes over some really shallow sections. Even the section by the Greenjackets stadium ranges from 14' to 14" within several hundred feet.

Buddy who did it on kayaks said its apr 168 miles from Augusta to Savannah. You would need to bring a decent amount of fuel on board if no gas along the way, or have a vehicle parked at a ramp somewhere with gas cans.

Thanks for the inputs, I think you guys killed my desire to make this trip! LOL!
