While installing a dual battery set up, I pulled the original battery (wanted to see the screw size & washer for the battery strap, so I could get a similar one for battery 2) and noticed this damaged area(s) inside.
The cracked/broken areas are thin gelcoat, w/ little to no fiberglass backing.
I filled/covered them w/ marine silicone & duct tape, just as a temp repair).

I’m still under 1st year warranty, & I have the extended 5 year warranty.

Wondering if I should have the dealer patch this, w/ my next service…or is it no big deal?

I would have them fix it. That is crap.

FYI Also you get 1 yr from the Manufacturer, automatic, then you can extend upto 4 yrs YES warranty for a total of 5.

Thanks for the reassurance, I don’t like being “that guy”, but I felt like that’s kinda crappy to leave it like that.

I could have worded the extended warranty part better LOL.

So does the dealer install the battery, or Yamaha.
Unfortunately I purchased out of state…due to availability.
Either way it should be warranted, but I’m just curious.

Dealers install the batteries because boats can sit for months unused before being sold and put in the water. Typical lead-acid batteries would be dead in a few months without charging them regularly.

Yeah, so I’m guessing the dealer probably did that damage. Either way, there should be some fiberglass behind that gelcoat.

For what we pay for our boats, have them fix it until the warranty expires. Does your local dealer do fiberglass work or will they have to outsource it? Either way, Yamaha is responsible in my opinion.
