I'm looking to pull the trigger on a new either SX210 or 240 this June. My main concern believe it or not is the lack of a forward facing captain's chair on the 210 (She likes to drive). Any owners of the 210, does this bother you? Also can someone please direct me to that great recent thread with schematics of the various Yamahas, I can't seem to find it anywhere, thanks!

Are you talking about the port side seats as both the 21 and 24 series boats have forward facing captain's seats.

Fwiw, on my 232, it had a convertible seat that could be down as an observers seat or up as a navigator seat. We promptly folded it down as an observer seat and never folded it back up...

When going to the 242, the content I heard about the disk captain's seats we,,, "that's a lot of wasted space."

Lol

I don't miss the co-pilot's chair in our AR210, we actually prefer not having one, gives us basically one more seat spot. Here's a post from last summer that highlights some of the seating space comparing different years. It doesn't include the latest models, but it'd be pretty close.

When we were shopping for boats in 2015, I wasn't dead set on getting a boat with the tower. So I left it up to my wife, the J-Seating with the Tower or the (2) Captain's Chairs without the tower. We sat in boats with both configurations and she liked the J-Seating better, so we ended up with a 212X. I believe both the SX240 and AR240 have (2) Captain's Chairs, but both the SX210 and AR210 have the Bench/J-Seating Arrangement.

I have a 2011 SX210 and really like the J Seating. I think the two chairs take up way too much room. No one seems to have any issues with seating and there is lots of room even if we put the table out.

J seating hands down. So much better use of space!

Hmm, I guess we're in the minority. Two captains chairs were a must for us. Much more comfortable to cruise around and not have to turn your head to see what's ahead. And, when we're hanging out, the seats swivel. The j seating was a deal breaker for us.

Two captain chair is a must for me and the wife. She like to be up over the windshield, face in the wind, just like me.

We moved from the ar190 to ar240. We prefer the two captains chairs.

I'm with @bobbie when we got our 15 212x that was almost a deal breaker not having the two captains chairs. We even priced out adding one and getting rid of the bench seat. Growing up my family always had sea rays with 2 captains chairs so it seemed normal to want/have them. After 2 summers with the J seating I wouldn't go back. Seems more open to is since there is no backrest to the rest of the cockpit. Just my 2 cents

Besides 2 captains chairs you get more room everywhere else too. More storage, more bow seating, larger swim deck, more stable boat.

This was a major back and forth with my wife and I.

We had a budget and the AR210 was a perfect fit.(we went with the AR210)

Wife wanted the wake tower and 2 captains chairs.

Again. The AR210 had the wake tower but didn't have two captains chairs.

I often think about purchasing another captain chair and retrofitting it into my AR210. I just don't know the cost and if it's even possible.

@jeff_s I'm not sure what year yours is, but I checked into the cost of doing it for our 15 212x. For us it was a simple change to the 212ss seat and base since the hull was the same. I think it was about 800 for the captains chair and all get pieces you needed to compete it. After using it that last 2 years for our family and use I'm glad we didn't change it.

I have a 2017.

So you didn't add a 2nd captains chair?

No when we got the boat I got a parts list with pricing on it for everything to add the second captains chair. We decided to try it out first as is before spending that much for just the parts no install. Best decision we made saved us 800+ and are more than happy with the j seating.

I have received great feedback on the J seating (sx230) 2007+. Try it before you spend money to "fix it" would be my humble suggestion.
