The tabs on the trailer. Has anyone reinforced those tabs. Mine are bending . Causing the straps to loosen on the 5 mile trek to the ramp. I don't think I'm over tightening. They are just taught.
Do you have photos of the bending brackets? They'd have to bend a lot to loosen the straps much.
Are you sure the straps aren't loosening because the boat is naturally shifting on the trailer? When you accelerate the winch strap on the bow gets pulled tighter around the take up, allowing the boat to slide back a little loosening the rear straps. One thing to make sure you do is:
Not let out too much strap when retrieving the boat
Keep the strap taught as you wind in the boat (put your weight on it pushing down so the strap goes on the take up reel tightly)
The bow is on the roller. I will take a pic tomorrow.
Your thoughts are possible as well my wife didn't load as she had to much summer beer and I dd'd my buddy backed the trailer. I power loaded and had too many people leaning over to help. It was on the roller but I had no control over the roller. I always put a strap on the bow eye along with the safety strap
Another thing I do when trailering is to accelerate hard, followed by a hard brake. Then I get out and tighten all the straps because they always loosen after doing that.
Even with the bow eye tight on the roller the rear can still shift a bit. My transom straps always need to be tightened a few miles after leaving the ramp and driving down the country road. Been that way for my PWC's too. The bunks and boat will settle a bit as you hit some bumps, or at least that's been the case for me.
Still though if you can see actual bending that's interesting. I use boat buckles that are attached to the same tab area but I've never noticed any flex or bending.
I have boat buckles as well and you can see they have flexed. I am thinking of welding a support on the back or just drilling a hole. I might add having a drunk people help sucks!!!
nope its the same. yours look to be about the same angle as mine. Maybe its my straps loosening? I thought they were more forward. Its definitely perplexing. I didn't have the issue with the mouse traps on the 3 hour drive home from the dealer when I brought it home a month ago. It might have been the drunks helping me. They were trying to help and very appreciative, so I wasn't a ass and tell them not to help. My wife and I have our process home and this was the first time this issue happened.
Thanks for the help btw, the pic saved me a trip to the dealer to check out their trailer
I'd lean more towards it's just your boat settling and your straps being loose after the fact. It happens. I have always made it a habit to recheck my boat/PWC and trailer after a few miles as they all settle a bit. Usually the bow eye is still snug but it's the rear that will settle in the bunks and need to be tightened again after it's bounced a few times. My .02
reinstall the boat buckles in front of the tail lights between the cross boar and the light. you will never have another problem again. You can kind of see what i am referring to in the below picture of my boat.
OK just went and looked , also put my anti pooling poles up because rain is coming. They are the opposite direction. So I might just mount them like cam did. No bumps on my five mile trek the bow is on the the roller. So it's not moving back.
