Simrad GO XSE5 install 2018 ar242se

So i purchased an Simrad GO XSE5 with total scan and i wanted a flush mount, meaning i wanted to look like it came installed on the boat, no extra brackets etc. Brand new on ebay for $350.
Needed for the install

painters tape​

jigsaw with a bit to cut plastic/fiberglass​

A flat file​

lots of patience​

I mock up the area and used the paimters tape to mark where to cut, make sure there is no cables or wires running behind.​

drill a hole in one of the corners to be able to insert the blade , and start cutting. the cutting part is not hard and goes pretty quick with the right blade, it is better to cut a little tight and the file as needed..​

Insert the unit into the holes with the provided gaskets and tighten the nut included.​

The unit itself has an on/off button so you can find a power source to feed it or what i did, which i plug it using the auxiliary cable in the back. the cable has a cap so i pulled the plugs from the cap and inserted the + and - connectors from the unit and made it into a plug. Pretty simple. no need to splice up the wires..​

next will be to install the transducer with i have just been lazy, but with a trip planned to the Exumas, i will have to get to it soon.​

Love it, i had a Hummingbird mounted on top of the dash in my 07 and it looked odd.

From all my research and measurements from my boat on the front of the panel and from the back side of the panel, it would be close, but I am leaning towards it won’t fit. Check out the overall outer dimensions as well as the cut out templon the website and then look in the helm storage behind the console. There is less room to cut than the available you measure on the front. I’m trying to do the same thing for mine but haven’t had any luck for flat mount options with any of the better brands for 7” (and obviously bigger). For 7” or bigger it is looking like I might have to do a RAM Mount coming off of the side.

If you use simrad/garmin whatever as the depth and gps on boat you only need tach for each engine and fuel gauge. You can also integrate the fuel into screen.

We got the garmin ecomap plus cv74. I have a 2006 sx230 here is the flush mounted. Had to form a bracket because of curve but in an 07 would be easier since its flat panel.

Any tips before I take on something like this vs going with the GO5? Looking behind things it looks like its a bit more than just cutting the fascia?

i do have a bud that installed the go 7 in the same place, on my 252 i went with an Axiom 7 way easier to use for me

What makes the Axiom easier to use? Assuming since you have the 252 it is a pod type of mount vs flush?

Do you know how hard it was for your friend to get it to fit? Before I commit to purchase and start chopping, I want to know what I am in for. Go5 looks like a piece of cake...

Prior discussions seemed to indicate the 7 wouldnt fit, but the above indicates it does (barely).. Inspection looks like there is some extra fiberglass behind the dash that may need convincing, but was more worried about the Connext screen...

i never got the go5 to do the dock to dock feature, yes i had a current Navionics card, piece of cake with the Axiom but thats my opinion, my bud has a 2019 242x and he did fit a gox7 there tight fit but he made it work
