Today while testing out the ribbon delete on my lake I came around a corner to see a beautiful blue Super Air Nautique G23 wake boat full of people just sitting in the middle of the lake. I kind of got the feeling something was wrong and then they started flagging me down. I pull up and the guy introduces himself and says they ran over a log and it sliced into the skeg and is now stuck underneath the boat! He decides he is going to wrap a rope around both sides of the log and then tie the other end to my tow loop at the stern. This is still chilly 70° water and this dude don't care one bit lol. We were going to try and see if a little idle speed and then rev a a little would manage to remove the stuck log but we had no luck. We tried this a few more times each time giving it a little more power but the log was not moving. On the plus side I learned my boat can tow a 5,900 lb boat + some ballast + a log no problem :D.

After several failed attempts he decides he is just going to limp the boat home at idle and figure out if he can get his boat lift. I ask if he wants me to hang around and follow him to make sure they make it safe but instead he asked for my cell number and he would call if they needed help. After giving him my cell I said good luck to them and headed down the river a ways. I knew which way he had to go home so I would go a mile or so to keep an eye if they would come idle through. I did this for a while each time as they made their way to the main channel and decided they apparently were good to go for idling home so I headed off. After a while I would periodically check my phone but I never heard from them. About an hour had passed of not seeing them in the main channel and I began to worry, so I headed back to check on them again. As I rounded a corner I see their boat is now running about 25 mph or so towards me and figure they got the log off somehow :thumbsup:. We waive to each boat and I continue on my way. [flag]

Later on while pulling my boat out at the ramp I get a text and its says "Thanks again for your help man and being a solid escort!". I scroll down my phone and I see this :eek::eek::eek::eek: ....

Turns out he is a pro wake boarder by the name Colby Bernier http://www.wakeworld.com/news/feature/collegiate-wakeboarding’s-top-10---20142015.html! He was a real nice guy, down to earth and so was the crew he was with. I found a video of him and the same G23 boat...

Nice work! But "chilly 70 degree water". Still upper 40's, low 50's round here.
 
I texted him asking how they got it off. He said the log and the skeg fell off after a while of them idling. I can't believe it didn't eat his prop! He said they hit the log at over 20 MPH!

Wow. I'm surprised he could rip a piece of his boat off like that without taking on serious amounts of water.

I have a video I need to edit and put together of the speed runs. When I first started out for the day the boat was hitting Around 7700-7800 RPM and almost 50 MPH in slight chop. Highest speed I got today was 51 running with the wind and current. Later in the day my RPM was 7500 or so and stayed around 49 MPH. Air temps were in the mid 80's and water temp was 70 degrees. Throttle response seemed better and very crisp. It seemed snappier out of the hole and at any time I punched it in the RPM range. I was hoping I would pick up a little more top speed but maybe because I'm near sea level I won't see as big of a change as others have. For a Non supercharged motor I would for sure do the ribbon delete as its so easy to access but on my boat I'm not sure I would do it again knowing it didn't make a bigger difference for top speed and it's kind of a pain to do on the supercharged engines. The throttle response is nicer though so that is always welcomed!

What were your RPM in similar conditions before the delete?
7,800 is basically riding on the rev limiter, so if you were close to that before the delete - you couldn't really gain much top end after (without tweaking the prop or getting a reflash etc.).

Last year in the mid 80's air and water temps I was at 7500 RPM and 49 MPH with only the SVHO intercooler swap. After the ribbon delete I hit 7800 and 50 but it was earlier in the day. As the day went on my numbers went back to 7500 and 49-50 MPH depending on water. It was pretty windy and choppy yesterday but I think if the water was calm and glassy I could have picked up another mph. The biggest difference I could tell was throttle response was more crisp and instant at any RPM range and I'm very glad for that!

Good work helping another boater out! (Btw - we'll take some of that 'chilly 70° water'. That's nearly summer temps for us. We top out around 74.)
 
Well that makes me nervous about the soon to be mine G23 lol... Guess I just have to avoid those logs! Lol

Any log makes me nervous :D but yea he dodged a bullet yesterday! These logs must have been leftovers from a storm system we had roll through a week or two ago. I saw several that would have done serious damage to my boat had I hit them and it was the first time I recall seeing that many on my lake.

After reviewing my footage and zoomed in on the gauges I averaged 49.5 MPH on most of my test runs. I got the 51 when I was traveling with wind and with the current. I'll post the video soon as it's rendering right now.

I was watching my first speed run video back when my boat was 100% stock and it's so depressing seeing 7100 RPM drop from heat soak and speeds in the mid to low 40's. The SVHO intercooler was the biggest factor mod. I'm not sure the ribbon did too much for me at 600' above sea level but seems I have gained a little with the mod, mostly felt in throttle response. To sum it up I gained roughly .5 MPH on average and initially gained 150 RPM on the first few runs until settling at my normal 7500 RPM (which I maintained a .5 MPH increase than before with the SVHO intercooler at the same RPM ).
