So...I'm looking through Craigslist...

Man I would love something like that! But 300 gallon tank

yesterday i was looking on line at a 1989 defever 53 long range ocean cruiser... the thing held 900 gallons and had a range of 2200 miles!! the fill up would hurt but u could start in key west and go to Canada and still have fuel! I am subscribed to boat fam but if they are not gonna have a boat then i prob will unsubscribe. We watch living seaworthy now. they just bought a small trawler.

Over the last couple of weeks Willow and I have been looking at Sail boats on craigs list. There are some beautiful boats out there, but some are more than we are willing to pay. She took the ASA 101 and 103 recently, which I will do in the spring and then we will do 104 together. We have looked at some Catalinas on the lower end and a Beneteau on the other end. Today we are going to look at an O'day 31, nice clean boat for 30+ years old with a lot of mods already installed. We both are a son and daughter of sailors so this could be our next purchase. We will keep the Yamaha for water sports and trips to the beach. The Sail boat will be good for weekend trips around Lake Champlain. It will have to be marine surveyed first tho.

Growing up (preteen) we had an O'Day 22 that we kept on a lake in Mississippi. I remember not liking it as a little kid, but as I got older I really enjoyed it. The kind of boating we do now isn't for sailboats, but we may have one someday.

Now THAT"S a boat. Love the throw rug!!

My parents had the same sailboat in the 90's, I never went out with them on it, as I have until recently only wanted horsepower propelling me. As a pirate looks at 60 actually 57, I can see myself slowing down and enjoying propulsion with wind. We will be a two boat family, keeping the Yamaha. Both will have their advantages. What the heck, my father has 3 boats, 2 in Fla. and 1 here. The apple does not fall far. We liked the 85 O'DAY 31 today, well maintained, auto pilot, nice looking teak, good cabin head room, diesel, Alpine/JL audio, a lot of other stuff. A few chips in gelcoat on deck nothing major. Going out for trial this week. A couple of pics from todays walk around.
20170913_151831.jpg 20170913_151855.jpg The 31 has a lot more room than the 27s and 28s (other manufactures) that we have looked at.

Very nice! Another thing about the O'Day that I remember was that my Dad told me you can't turn one over. It's the heaviest and slowest, but it's also the safest. We'd sail in winds that most others wouldn't dare be out in and we'd be drowning the winches and going for a ride. It was named Sleighride for a reason. Good luck with the survey.

@PEARCE Your Dad was mostly right about them. They have a pretty well ballasted finned keel and in all but extreme conditions will not go over. However there are many other slower boats in its class. It is a good cruising boat, its mainsail is smaller, but a bigger jib and genoa make it a good competitor. At this point, I have little interest in racing, ya right, if I want to go fast I will take out the Yamaha. Like today after we looked at it, my wife and I walked over to the Yamaha, took it out to the middle of the lake to discuss a potential purchase. We are looking for a good entry level, safe weekend boat, or longer, to sail this lake.

I guess the point I was trying to make is that BoatFam is transitioning to SuburbFam. I know a few folks follow them here. I believe @Bruce was following them.

For those of you that don't know Boat Fam.
