I have been notified by Yamaha dealer that the impeller is making noise and most likely the bearing causing the issue. Was looking at replacing the impeller and wear ring with a Solas brand. Anyone have any experiences with the product good or bad? Is there other products out there that are similar that i need to consider? Also, I have a yamaha 2012 242 limited that has a Gray canopy awning and want to change the color to Champagne (tan) . I was told by yamaha that the 2013 model did come in Champagne. Can somebody confirm and have a part # for this champagne color awning? Thanks for any help you provide and have a good day!

I would verify anything in person. With the pump off the boat, spin the pump and feel any play. With the cone off and the bearings exposed, do the bearings look nice and clean, and the grease looks homogeneous and show no signs of waster intrusion (No water drops/bubble present)?

In order to determine the health of the pump, visual examination of the condition of the grease and bearings tends to be conclusive, and it's not hard to do. Did you notice anything? I am challenged in the trust department when my interests don't align with the service provider (They make money and it cost me money if they are not being upfront, so so the system is a little perverse).
If the impeller is "making noise" it means the impeller is rubbing on the pump and the pump bearings are toast. A pump rebuild is not a great first DIY job because to do it perfectly you need a big press. (the press part can be farmed out if you want to go DIY) but it can be done cheaply at home. Boat labor tends to be super expensive, so if you are handy, and if there is a real problem, and you are willing to fix yourself you will save $400-$1000+ if you DYI vs pay dealer.

It is rare for the pump to have busted bearings allowing the impeller to contact the pump without having noticed anything odd previously.

Why do they have the boat now? what were your symptoms?

It's possible there is nothing wrong just yet. Best of Luck!

I do believe that they would not have a problem with taking every penny i have and then some. That is why i am looking at solas prop and and a one piece wear ring. I saw a video and pics of a two piece wear ring. It gets corrosion between the metal due to cracking and causes corroding/swelling causing the propeller to make contact with wear ring, my boat is 2 hours away and cant take a look for myself at this time

You saw a video of your boat or just a video on the internet ?

Did you ever hear this noise the boat was making while you were using it on the water?

if they are running the boat out of the water on the hose they are notoriously noisy and every boat sounds like it,

if your bearings are the issue replacing the impellers/wear ring aren't going to do much but cost you more money,

And if you have a chance to answer my original questions...Why is the boat at the dealer? and what symptoms did you experience?

The boat is in for unrelated issue to jet pump noise. Engine work! I don’t have the boat to hear the noise they are referring to but will be get the boat back and doing the replacement of the wear ring and possible expellers if needed. There is a video on this site but cant find it know. It was added to a thread and was the impeller rubbing on the wear ring.. if i find it i will repost it!

Here is the video about impeller
. Copy and paste in search of you tube. Sorry best I can do. Not sure how to add link

Right, for that to happen the bearings are usually damaged by water ingestion. What engine work are they doing? These boats generally don't need any unless you had a timing chain fail.

Where are you located?

Best of Luck!
