I thought this thing was top mount with screws on top...turns out the hole is pretty big, and it must be accessed from the rear. Seems to be the case for all options.

Any thoughts or concerns making a hole that big on the SX230 to get the remote to fit, in replacement of the current dead JBL unit?

Thanks!

I did it on my 240. Really like the remote.

@jawsf16 how much bigger did you have to make the hole on the 240? I just installed a Sony Mex100bt on my boat and have thought about adding the remote.

I had to enlarge the hole for my Fusion remote. It was well worth it

I would not make a hole unless you feel that it is a quality product that you will stick with.

I installed a similar size Clarion remote on my SX230.

How hard was it to reach the rear areas to bolt it up, once you inserted it?

I did the same remote on my '07 SX230. For me reaching the mounting bolts was easy because I had put a speaker just above it. But you can easily reach it by climbing in the storage compartment, removing the rear wall (mine had one mounting phillips screw in the floor), and the remote was a short reach.

Here is my thread where I added the speakers, good pictures of the remote, https://jetboaters.net/threads/6-speakers-and-no-amp.1004/ . I do remember that I could not get the Sony remote to cover both the mounting holes of the factory remote. I set the Sony remote to cover the aft factory mounting hole and filled the forward mounting hole, unfortunately I don't remember what I used to fill it.
