I bought some Wetsounds XS-650's and I was going to mount them where the stock speakers are. I was thinking of adding a ring behind the speakers to reinforce the mounting. I added a subwoofer and added a wooden mounting bracket behind the fiberglass to support the speaker. Any ideas of a ready made 6.5" ring to support the new speakers? The 650's seem pretty deep and I thought some added support would be good.

Support is a great idea. I have said it in other posts but it helps with fiberglass deflection when the speakers are oscillating as well as giving more surface area for the fastener to connect with. I dont know where to buy marine grade rings. I just made my own out of hdpe (starboard) with a router on a circle jig I made. I cut the ouside diameter first then the inside. A jig saw will work as well.

Thanks, I kinda did the same when I put my sub in. I cut out a wooden circle, glued it to seal, and then painted it. I think I read your thread about the wooden ring helping to dissipate the sound better through the fiberglass. I think since the speakers I bought are bigger than stock, I'll put a support ring behind them.

But the better news is we are hoping to put the boat in this coming weekend!!!

@Mainah did you put rings on the swim deck speakers also? If so, how did you get the rings in behind the hole? I would like to add some eventually. Not sure how much it helps with the 6.5's in fiberglass, but it can't hurt right? I can definitely see the need for them in the bow area. Not sure about all boats, but in the 242's the piece where the bow speakers mount is a flimsy piece of plastic.

I did split rings for the swim deck.
